New scientific study shows that carbohydrates are addictive

Re: New scientific study shows that carbohydrates are addict

That Bear is the modern day equivalent of the 'Marlboro Man' in the 1950's/60's tobacco advertising campaign.

Oh yes. Trying to lower carbs but just get cravings in the evening which I don't seem to be able to ignore. Am on Novo Rapid, and Lantus and getting that big stomach no waist syndrome. I try and have half a wholemeal bagel but once I start eating that's it. Any advice for me please?

There are so many great recipes on this site, have a look at the Low Carb forum, and particularly at Chocolate Paradise, which is amazing if you have a sweet tooth. If I am peckish I try to have something quite high in fat because it seems to fill me up, such as a babybel, pepperami or cold meats if you like savory stuff.

Yep. Don't start on the bagels.

Re: New scientific study shows that carbohydrates are addict

The battle against carbohydrates is going to be almost exactly like the battle against smoking except a lot faster. There's no doubt that there's going to be misinformation spread to protect the profits of the sugar/food/pharmaceutical industries, but hopefully low-carb will prevail.

Re: New scientific study shows that carbohydrates are addict

I stopped smoking 8 years ago. It was hell for a while. Controlling carbs is like it exactly. Giving up chocolate was identical to giving up smoking.....but it got easier as time went on.

Maybe some people can eat carbs and not start a craving just as some people can have alcohol and not get addicted. But I cant.

It would be good if we could bottle the smell of sizzling bacon and eggs and then when we fancy a carb, take the top off the bottle, take a sniff and bingo - we'd find ourselves in the kitchen doing a fry up instead of reaching for the bread or the cakes. :D

Re: New scientific study shows that carbohydrates are addict

The thing is GraceK that I love bacon and eggs......but it doesnt seem to affect me craving carbs. I love cheese and all the other things I can eat. Its not a matter of being satisfied or eating foods I dont like......but they dont seem to take the craving away.

But it is getting easier every day. And recognising the reality of the problem, not beating myself up for being weak, but knowing that I have a chemical addiction, really helps me to focus on staying strong and not wasting energy on negative thoughts about myself, which is what I did before I knew that my cravings were not a character flaw.
