Hi
Newly diagnosed 3 weeks ago with Hba1c of 120, no symptoms and feeling good even on 2 metformin tabs a day, Hba1c already falling due to major diet changes and 3 5k runs a week!! I know this is going to take time but I’m up for the challenge and hopefully have started well, one stone down already.
I bought a vivachek ino x BG meter online and am testing twice a day and recording the results, does anyone else use this meter as obviously have no experience here, seems to work well but just after some advice on this and for going forward
Thanks

Hi @Karl hayler and welcome to the forum.

All meters sold in UK, EU, US have to conform to the same specs . I have no knowledge of the vivacheck ( hope that the test strips aren't too expensive ). When trying to control T2 D by diet (aerobic exercise doesn't make much difference - muscle building resistance exercise is better), we usually test individual ,meals to make sure that the carbohydrate load wasn't more than our bodies are comfortable with (all carbs raise blood glucose even so-called 'healthy' ones like whole grains and tropical fruit).
The way we do this is to test just before a meal and then 2hrs after first bite, looking for no more than a 2.0mmol rise. (UK units).
If you can achieve that for all/vast majority of your meals and keep the maximum reading form those tests down to 8.0 mmol, then you are well on your way to a 'normal HbA1C' regardless of what your weight is.
