Hi I'm Rebekah and I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in January but the thing is I'm having a hard time getting my blood glucose levels low... they range from 12 to 29 sometimes.. anybody got advice on things I could do to bring it down, would be so useful. Thank you

Welcome @Bekahhx :)

My top tips for good control are to count carbs and to test often :)

And remember that your team are there to help you, so do ask if you want advice or help.

Thank you for the response azure but my team aren't very good if I'm honest.

I've seen the diabetic nurse once although she does ring regularly but with regards to a dietician or anything then I haven't seen anyone.

I'm not exactly sure either on the right amount of carbs and I have a set dose at the moment so I take 6 with breakfast and lunch and 10 with dinner so I'm not quite sure on how to check carbs etc :) thank you anyway though

Hi there @Bekahhx
welcome to the forum :)

what your care team have done is started you out on fixed doses of fast acting insulin which is fine but the second part is matching the amount and type of food to that insulin dose.
hopefully you will get sent on a carb counting course soon. ( pester your nurse about this :D )

while you are waiting have a look at this online carb counting course.http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/

the other thing is it is still really early days so try and just take things 1 day at a time. i know you want to get your levels down but gradual will be ok too so don't worry.

keep posting too !!

all the best !

Thank you @himtoo for your response. I will most definitely look at that website thank you!

I mentioned the course to her yesterday and she said she'll invite me onto one so hopefully that won't be too long!
