Hi all,

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Friday so l thought l would introduce myself to this site.
My blood sugar level was 30 on Sat so am now on 4 types of insulen a day. Its all a massive shock.. l thought l just had a bladder infection! So much to remember! Im so tired, down and a bit emotional at the moment. But im sure l will get lots of information from this site and will be good to read about other peoples experiences. Thank you.

Hi claridge and welcome.
Have a good look around the forums and come back and ask all the questions you need to. There are some very experienced Type 1's on the forum.

Catherine.

Hi
I remember it well (mind you was only 6 months ago  ) and everyone here knows how you feel too im betting

It will get better, I promise. Its a pain in the **** and you will have emtional and blood sugar ups and downs likely for the next wee while. However, dont feel isolated cause there's trillions of us!! Just take your time to absorb whats going on and then you will become bemused at how pleased you feel when you see good numbers on your meter (which btw will become like your new best friend -dont believe me?, just wait until you misplace and nearly have a stroke with the fright of it  )

So hello, and come back to talk to us., You will feel better for it
x

Hi

I posted a newbie post earlier today too!! Been diagnosed since Saturday, also got taken to hospital with blood sugar over 30 and I thought I had a virus!! (truth be told symptoms were obvious but was completely in denial!) I'm also on 4 jabs a day to try and keep life as flexible as possible so you (and I!!) are not alone

Now it's sinking in it's not so bad although like you I've had some lows and I'm sure we will for weeks to come!!

Keep me posted how you're doing... we had such similar starts to diabetic life on the same day!!

:)

Hi all, big thank you to all replies to this post! I have taken the week off work and staying with parents for week. Im feeling very tired, drained, mood swings etc- yipster29- have you had similar feelings? My blood sugar level is mad still massively up and down- yday before lunch it was 11.6 as l only had 2 pieces of toast for breakkie- then lots of food in afternoon and level was 26.7 before dinner. Im a big sick of feeling tired and my mood swings- feel sorry for my mum too! Defintely helps to read people are going through similar experiences. 2 questions- when levels are high is is good to lay off drinking- l have been having a glass of wine in the evenings. Also why are you not meant to exercise when your levels are high? I thought exerciese brings your blood sugar levels down. Thanks everyone! x

Hi Claridge.
I can't share experience, because I'm T2 and a grandmother, but i can assure you that once that BG comes under control, you will feel much better physically and better able to cope.
