Hi all, having been recently diagnosed as T2 and having been refused test strips by my doctor i've decided to go and buy off ebay. I've been given an accuchek aviva meter but was wondering whats a fair price i should be paying for the lancets and strips?

Hi Kaptain_Kremmen,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but welcome to this forum.

Ebay is a good place to buy - prices are good and sometimes you can find a very good deal.

I don't think that you should be having to pay for the strips and the lancets. However, many Type 2s have the same problem. You should be able to get supplies from eBay for about £10-£15 per box of 50.

You may be interested to support my e-petition on 10 Downing Street about this matter:

Hi Kaptain K.
Welcome to the forum.

Here is a link to a buy now item. £25 for Strips and 204 lancets, including P & P.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1x50-ACCUCHECK-AV ... 286.c0.m14

Plus more from £18.50 upwards all including P & P.
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=Accu ... 3ca650d853

I sometimes get them from here just shop arouind and the prices do vary a lot. I had 100 off one guy for £20 one time. Always check use by dates and the feedback on the seller. Use Paypal as well.

Also try your local Pharmacy. I get 50 strips for another meter for £18 VAT free, no hassle, straight off the shelf, no waiting and no P & P.

I have just purchased 500 strips (10 boxes) from E-bay off this seller

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/dibley0141/

Strips are for the Accu-Chek Aviva

Use by date is March 2010 and all sealed (have used him before).

He is based in Glasgow.
The price was £85 inc P&P (£8.50 a box - You'll pay more than that for 10 at Boots or Lloyds!!)

You will need to keep watching, as he puts them on now and again.

Regards Steve.

Hi Steve

I followed the link to your reccomended seller on e bay and just bought 4 boxes of 50 BayerContour stripsfor a total of £36 i.e £9 per box of 50. :D

Many thanks

Pavlos

Hi Pavlos,

I'm glad the link worked for you. I have an Accu-Chek Aviva, a Bereze2 and am now after a Contour. The reason is that the various strips are not always readily available and having 3 differenrt devices improves your odds of getting a good deal. I already won a Contour, but I never received it, so I have entered the competition again!..

All the best Steve.

Me too Steve - I do that. I have four machines and would accumulate others if I could get them for nothing for exactly the same reason as you - i.e. to increase my options when buying on eBay. I've also found that I find strips for the less popular older machines go for lower prices.

John

John,

dont forget to do the control tests with control fluid. I am not sure how the accuracy of these machines depreciate with age. (Maybe they dont?).

Steve.

That's a good point Steve - I must say that I never do that - perhaps I should.

However, I've never noticed any difference when moving from one machine to another.

Where would I get hold of control solutions - the chemists I suppose?

What do other people do?

John

Thanks for all the helpful advice, i've now bought some strips from the same seller as steve and pavlos. John, i get free control solutions from accuchek and also free batteries, not sure if other manufacturers do the same though.

Steve.
I cant see how age would affect accuracy as long as test strips are in date, but then i'm new to all this so could be very wrong!
