Welcome. This is a great place to pick yourself up with people who have been in your shoes.Hello, my name is Mike. I was diagnosed about 7 years ago as type 2. I have been taking metformin and glyburide, but I have to admit, I don't do it like I am supposed to. I also don't go to the doctor like I should either. I know, I'm not a very good patient. lol I have tried eating healthier, but either the food is disgusting or too expensive. I tried eating only meat and beans for a while, that helped some, but I get tired of eating the same thing all the time. It's so hard, I love my food! haha
I try to exercise, but after working and not sleeping well, and just always out of energy... it doesn't happen.
I just feel like there's another way. Like the big pharmaceutical companies are hiding a cure or something, just so they can keep getting our business. Am I the only one that feels this way? Does anyone else think there is a hidden cure somewhere out there? I really hope this doesn't make me sound crazy, I'm really not. lol I'm just tired of dealing with this day in and day out, ya know? I was hoping that by joining a forum, I could get some insight, and maybe some new ideas of things to try. I'm tired of being tired, tired of worrying, tired of taking pills, tired of being told I can't eat all my favorite foods, etc.
Sorry if this is depressing, but it's got me down a bit right now. I really hope that joining this forum will shed some light at the end of my tunnel, I need something to look forward to!
Thank you for letting me join, and I promise I won't always be down
Hope everyone is having a great day, can't wait to get to know all of you. Looking forward to new ideas!
Nice to meet you Mike, hope you stick around because this forum really does have some good ideas for us.Hello, my name is Mike. I was diagnosed about 7 years ago as type 2. I have been taking metformin and glyburide.........

Whilst I agree you’re right, why so negative without context? No one promised a cure or asked for oneJust dispel any beliefs that a cure currently exists. It doesn't.
Sorry yep it was asked. I missed that. The question was posed. Twice. I answered it. Quite simple really.

Thanks for your advice. I do love salads, the only problem is I really love my ranch dressing too lol and do not like the low fat or fat free. Grew up in Texas, with my sweet tea which I absolutely love, tried the unsweet... It's bearable I guess. Now we try to mostly drink the crystal light drinks.Hey, welcome!
Meat and beans eh? Well, the beans weren't all that, too starchy, and dunno whether you had any variety on the meat front. I'd get bored out of my mind too! @HSSS already shared my Nutritional Thingy blog, that might help bring a little variation to your low carbing, but for the moment that's basically the only "cure" around, provided you still make your own insulin and haven't worn out your pancreas. And it's not really a cure, more a method of controlling the T2... I don't think there's a "Hey, presto, it's gone!" cure, as there are a lot of factors contributing here, but I do have a feeling the LCHF way of eating, as well as Keto, are running in a lot of resistance from Big Brother, whether pharmaceutical or from the food industry. I do hope that era's coming to an end though. And my favourite foods have rather expanded since LCHF, to be honest. Do I miss certain things? Sure. Sometimes. But I can steal a bite or two of cake or brownie if my husband wants to share (and thankfully, he does), and it's for flavour, not for hunger, that i have some. Biggest discoveries were salads (there are so many varieties, and every restaurant does 'em differently! And they're easy to toss together at home too.), avocado, and just how much I love tea, even without sugar. (Did take some getting used to though, thought it was disgusting at first.).
By the way, there's no rule that says you absolutely have to be chipper on here. Wouldn't be offering much support if being down was against forum rules eh.You just be you, and we'll help if we can.
Hugs,
Jo
If you’re going low carb then you want to avoid the low fat stuff and have the full fat dressings. Great news eh! Just avoid the carby/sugary ones.the only problem is I really love my ranch dressing too lol and do not like the low fat or fat free
Spices might be your answer hereI am big on flavor, really don't like the bland foods
Hi again! Thanks for your advice. I do love salads, the only problem is I really love my ranch dressing too lol and do not like the low fat or fat free. Grew up in Texas, with my sweet tea which I absolutely love, tried the unsweet... It's bearable I guess. Now we try to mostly drink the crystal light drinks.
Oreo cookies really get me too, I would always have some with a glass of milk for a snack. I really miss those lol
I am big on flavor, really don't like the bland foods. When I was having the meat and beans, I would basically have steak and pinto beans. Sometimes added Rotel to the beans. But it got old pretty quick, while my family was eating all the "good"stuff. Then we decided to try everyone eating there same, since we could all be healthier. Doesn't go over real well with all the kids hahaha
But at this point, we are kinda strapped for money and gotta go super cheap. Seems like the super cheap stuff is all the "bad" stuff. Ugh. We just hate grocery shopping anymore... We look up diabetic recipes and they put all kinds of stuff in there, and we'll be like "what the heck is that?" They use a lot of cauliflower, which I can't stand... How can you trade mashed potatoes for cauliflower?
Lately I've been working on smaller portions, no matter what it is. I'm not sure if it's that or my stress, but I've lost some weight. I guess that's good.
I really need to figure out this eating thing though, my son is headed in a bad bad direction. We think he may have an eating disorder, he's bigger than any of us have ever been... And if he's not diabetic already, I'm sure he's probably prediabetic. We have to learn how to put only good foods in the house, since he will eat and eat and eat when we are not home or sleeping. We have finally gotten him to start going on walks with us every evening after dinner, so that's a good start.
Going to be checking on some LCHF recipes today. I really appreciate everyone's advice on here, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner! Lol
