Hi everyone,

I have just been put on Levemirn as my first type of insulin, i only started on the 15/10/09, but since the day after i started i have been getting pins and needles in my right hand when i am sleeping, i also take a number of different drugs for my asthma and cardio-myopathy, and ostioparosis.

i am also taking gliclazide, and metformin Sr, Simvastatin, Prednisalone , uniphyllin, digoxin, plavix, and a number of others

Has anyone had similar effects with Levemir, i am only taking 20 units once a day to start with.

I have phoned the local gp. and they say its not a side effect, any one else got any ideas?

thanks

justin

I get prickly feelings and sometimes pins and needles when my bg moves about

It might just be tighter control thats causing it but yes by and large medics dont like to agree any 'side effects' that arent on the patient info leaflet - so it largely remains anecdotal

If it doesnt settle, ask to change to another long acting to see

Could it be other meds, or mabye just sleeping on that side?

I don't get pins and needles or prickly feeling but as soon as I take it, within an hour I itch like mad, on my neck is the worst it drives me mad and over the next few hours it gradually eases off.

I am not going to stay on it, seeing a specialist in November. Its been better than the Lantus that I was on but I have also gained weight steadily over the last few weeks but eaten the same. :?

Someone (sorry forgot who) said it may be water retention and it is possible as I seemed to drink a lot more than I pass :( I think I am turning into a camel

If you think its the Levemir causing it, hassle your GP and don't let them tell you its not a known side effect.

I know the levemir is causing my itching because I did not take it one night, no itching, took it the next morning and within an hour or so the itch was back. Worse than my wifes nagging :D
