Hello everyone. I am new to the forum, although I have been reading various threads for a few months now. I was diagnosed type 1 at 13, 27 years ago. Ive not always been a very good diabetic, and have in the last few years cone to realise that part of this was due to my non acceptance of diagosis. Back in those days, I think, there wasn't much support for the emotional side of diagnosis and coping on a day to day basis with all the challenges diabetes throws in your face. This resulted in an eating disorder, which I have only recently found out is something that other diabetics have also suffered with. Facing up to all this has given me better insight into myself and the way I control my diabetes. The forum posts i have been reading have really helped me to feel better about engaging with drs etc, and not feel like a failure, its good to know that we are not alone!

Hi @emmajane22
a warm welcome to the forum.:)

that is a super first post and it is so good to hear that you have ended up in the zone of acceptance.
I think we all can go through bad patches as we do live with D a very long time --- but getting back to acceptance as soon as we are able is a definite factor in keeping the motivation high and striving to be the best we can be.

I hope you will be able to provide your own personal wisdom to this great community.

all the best !

Hi @emmajane22
I was diagnosed 30 years ago and totally agree that there was no consideration of the emotional side of diabetes back then. Thankfully there is more awareness now and I'm so glad this forum has helped you x

Hi @emmajane22 . Glad you're on the forum. By my reckoning you've got 27 yrs wisdom which I'm sure will be beneficial to a lot of people.

Thank you both, although I am not sure I have much wisdom to share, I have certainly learnt a lot from others on here!

You don't have to be able to give people a ground-breaking piece of advice to be helpful here - a simple "I know how you feel" can make a huge difference to someone.

Welcome @emmajane22 :)

I agree with @BeccyB Every input from someone who understands what it's like to live with diabetes is useful. None of us are perfect and none of us know everything, so your contributions are just as important as anyone else's :)

Couldn't agree more with you more @BeccyB, excellent post.

Welcome to the forum @emmajane22 :)
