Still learning! Diagnosed 7 months ago with an HbA1c of 7.1 which reduced to 6.1 by November .
Weight reduced from just over 17 stone to just under 14 stone on low carb diet.
Doc and dn said don’t need to rest but I purchased an Accu test meter a month ago. My fasting level on awakening is between 5.5 and 7 . At bedtime average around 6.7. Is that good?
During day I’ve done random tests at between 4.4 and 5.6 but haphazardly

Those readings are good mate!

A few tips on low carb options -

Bread:
LivLife (available from Waitrose)
High protein roll (available from Lidl)
Keto bread (lots of recipes on YouTube).

Celeriac:
Cut in medium slices, boil for 5 minutes then roast or fry like chips and tastes so much better than potatoes!

Pasta:
Lots of Keto pasta recipes on YouTube.

....Absolutely no need to suffer!!!

As a type two the most useful information to get from testing is the two hours after starting to eat level - as that tells you if you are avoiding spikes from too many or the wrong sort of carbs. As we are all different it can be difficult to do anything but point out the usual suspects of such things as pasta bread potatoes and fruit and suggest testing to discover if you can eat them or not and in what amounts.

Well done for an excellent reduction in your HBA1C in such a short time. Were you prescribed any medication for your diabetes?

If you want to fine tune things, it might help with being structured with your testing to get value out of each test. Testing just before and two hours after eating can be more useful than random tests.

FYI Lidl have discontinued their High Protein Rolls. We are hoping this might be temporary but....

Just one metformin a day which is probably now doing nothing. I had the normal dn nurse with a straight in “it will get worse and you will end up injecting insulin” - I intend to prove her wrong but shall start the proper testing regime. My one vice and love is bread but have mended my ways!!

NHS diet advice and lack of proper care guarantees it will get worse. Ignore advice not to test. It's the only way to try to take control and give yourself a chance.
