Hi diabetesman.
Welcome.
It's certainly not the end of the world. Diabetes can be and is controllable and will not ruin your life.

You are young enough to make a big difference to how you feel and your overall health. We have all been there and scared at some point. Listening to the advice given here and the help offered
will be the best thing you can do.

Take a good look round and read the success stories, ask questions and we will try to provide the answers.

Ken.

Dear Diabetesman,

Diabetes can be difficult at times but you can't let it be that way!! Diabetes can be like a puzzle and you just need to relax and figure it out with your doctors and their assistants. First you need to study what diabetes is and what you need to do to control your health for the better..you should be getting this from your doctor or his referrals to dieticians, endocrinologists or internists if needed. Diabetic medicine really helps including the dreaded insulin. If you need insulin, you will feel better being on it. There is a fear at first not knowing what the insulin will do but with good training it will come. As you learn about your diabetes, I'm sure your wife will be right there with you and eventually you will teach your beautiful children. It becomes a way of life and dietary restraints aren't as bad as they used to be. Just remember it's not your fault but you gotta take care of yourself for you and your family. I was once told I needed to take care of myself first before I could help others. I had diabetes for 38 years and had a pancreas transplant one year ago. Good luck to you. starke01

hya and welcome to the forum,
its not the end of the world at all, if anything you will probably end up healthier , what type of diabetes do u have? what if anything are u taking for it?
stick around and try not to worry :D

Hi Diabetesman,
Hi it is not end of the world trust me! I am 33 years old!
It is not what has brought you here, it is what choice you make as of here now!
Your wife I am sure will support you! I am sure you will be able to talk to your wife!
Sometimes you will need to be able to talk to others who know what you are going through! I sometimes find it is a mine field!
The way to look at this is easy, You have diabetes, Okay lets start now and take control, Easy to say i know! But there are people here who will offer you alot of support and help in anyway that they can!
This forum acts as group and can help no matter what is happening! Don't think that any question is stupid and there is always someone here to help and offer support!
Do you have a blood testing machine? This is a important tool in dealing with diabetes! Once you have the machine, you will find what foods make your blood sugars rise!
at the minute i guess you are really scared and wondering what you do next?
if you need to talk at any time, there are lots on here who are always around! If you need a question answered pose it in ask the experts and i am sure you will get answered in no time,
Take it easy, don't panic, we all know what you are going through right now
Sandy

oh help how do i posy a message/query
Hi Lance,

You post a question or message by doing exactly what you did when you posted the one above.

First use the board index to select which of the forums you want to post in. If you have a specific question about your diabetes and/or treatment then the forum "Ask the Experts" is the best place. If you have a general question about diabetes then "Diabetes Discussions" is probably the best place. So you click on the name of the forum (e.g. Ask the Experts).

Once you are in that forum then have a look at the topics that have already been posted there. There may already be a question that answers what you want to know, or that is related to your question. You can either add your question to an existing topic or you can start a new topic for your question. To add to an existing one click on the button marked "Post Reply" and then post what you want to say. To start a new topic click on the button marked "New Topic", give your topic a heading, then post your question.

When you have finished click on "Submit".

Have a good look around the different forums and you will get a good idea of the layout and what people hae posted in the past. It is very likely that your question has been asked and answered before, but if you can't find the answer you are looking for then please ask us.
