Just wanted to post, New to this and still trying to understand it all, Been type 2 for a few months now and managing it through Tablets and good diet...still have my bad days but one thing i have found is having type 2 isn’t as scary as a lot of people think, still think shops have to think better for this tho, I’m in a car a lot and find it difficult at lunch time to find quick pick up lunches, what do people suggest?!?

Hi spabrown and welcome to the forum. In case you haven’t already seen it here’s a link to a post with useful info for newly diagnosed:

Now down to your question. How about ready made salads, avoiding the carby ones like pasta. Cold meats, cheeses like Babybels, pork scratchings, sugar free jelly pots. M&S food stores have a good range of snack pots with cheese, olives, stuff like that in.

I travel a lot in my work day as well. It's not quite so easy to grab quick sandwiches and snacks at motorway services anymore - no more bags of crisps, bananas, chips, or sandwiches........or a sneaky choccie. You need to perhaps be a bit more organised. Buy a lunch bag. Buy some full fat Greek yoghurts - you do get smaller prepacks suitable for lunch on the go - or just buy a big tub and spoon it into a reusable dish. Add some berries and its a great, filling lunch. If you need a bit more than that, pack some hard boiled eggs - easy to do a half dozen in the evening and use over the next day or two if kept in the fridge.
There are some low carb protein bars out there as well - nice snack under 8g - Trek Portein bars, Nine bars and Adsa's dark choc and sea salt protein bars to name three..........

Sainsbury's do a nice salad bar which includes hard boiled eggs if you are near one, they also do a small hard boiled egg pot with spinach - these are expensive compared to the price of eggs though, but at least you can grab something from their lunch offering.

Cheese is also a great lunch bag filler as are meat products like ham etc.

Takes a bit more preplanning though.

I have also found a McDonald's Breakfast can be low(ish) carb - I do an Egg muffin meal and swop the hash brown for a cucumber bag, plus a cappucino - I also only take two bits of the muffin only!! the sausage and egg muffin or bacon and egg muffin similar - ditch the muffin though.

shops have to think better for this tho,

Welcome @spabrown
I'm afraid shops are not interested in our wellbeing they're just out to make a profit. Most people want to grab some convenient, sugar laden frankenfood so that's what they sell
I agree with the others you need to have a plan and prepare your food in advance

I was out all weekend at the Wimborne Folk Festival, so I made some ice packs - frozen water, a handful of salt, sealed in a plastic box, in the insulated bag with meat, cheese, eggs and salad, lots of no sugar squash. Even though Sunday was really hot the cooling was more than adequate for the whole day.

Hi Spabrown .
Warm welcome to the forum.
I love your attitude re; D .
Wishing you look on your journey .

Welcome!

One nice thing I found was some roast chicken chunks and a pot of guacamole. I dipped the chunks in the guacamole, mmmm was tasty. I usually make a quick salad and boil some eggs before I go out for the day now and put them on a plastic box with some mayo. I always carry babybels and brazils with me in the car for snackage.

I keep a spoon and fork in the car and my bag. A pot of ready made egg mayo is pretty easy to find and filling. I know it’s not the best oil in the mayo but needs must. You can get packs of tuna in flavours, think they are designed for topping jacket potatoes or tins of fish like sardines, tuna and salmon that have ring pulls. Public transport might not be the place to open these up though.

Omelettes can work well if sitting down somewhere and are widely available. Cooked breakfasts too without the bad bits.

A packed lunch is often easiest and tastiest though if it’s a planned outing.
