Ive just found this site im hoping I can make some new friends here.
My name is susie im 48yrs old, I am type 1 diabetic I also take metaformin. Ive had diabetes for 20yrs,I found it hard to come to terms with as I also suffer from depression. but now I am getting my blood sugars under control.
I recently had a major op and while in hospital for some reason they kept my sugars high so now i am having to fight hard again to get them under control again.
I dont have anyone around me who are diabetic so it would be great to chat to others.
I live in a small village in Herts, My hobbies are my 4 dogs, drawing and painting, reading, dog shows, im also a huge michael jackson fan.
I shall look forward to chatting to you

Welcome, Susie, I can't help with T1, but I am a fan of another departed star - the African-American Paul Robeson. I've just given a DVD/CD presentationon him as part of our Hounslow 50+ Festival.
 
Hello Susie, 20 years is a long time to not have good control. It is good that you are having better control now. Joining this forum can help you get a grip and we can guide you along your path. Ask all the questions you want.

I also had poor control for many years. I was diagnosed in 1945 when very little was known about diabetes. It was 40 years later that I finally had a meter, better insulins and found out that I should follow a low carb diet.

With good control I am now healthy and have no complications. I hope you do not have any serious complications. Tell us more about yourself.

Thankyou for all your welcomes, well I have nuropathy which is really painful, retinopathy ive had several laser treatments for that. my sugars are now under ten but the prob i have now is because of my op i cant eat very well so sugars are going down to 3.0, at min im taking 22/24 of novarapid and 37 of levermir at night.
Apart from my health probs, I still have time to do hobbies I love showing my dogs at fun dog shows I have 3 shelties and a sheltie x border collie we did a show on sat and my oldie jake got 2 1sts really proud of him. im also a artist I do pet portraits, Im also starting a large multi portrait of michael jackson, I also enjoy writing articles for mags, the most recent was in Love it mag I wrote about diabullima which I suffered from has anyone else suffered from this? I also love reading, and I love anything to do with lord Nelson and HMS Victory ( i was born in Portsmouth).
Any way wont bore you anymore :)
