I assume you are referring to the Libre which has been in the news recently.
This is a different way of measuring BG.
It can be used by anyone regardless of the type of diabetes they have ... or don't (I have read about athletes using Libre).

However, the recent news item is about making the criteria consistent across England for people with type 1 diabetes to get them on the NHS. This criteria is still very strict and they are only expecting about 20 - 25% of people with type 1 to qualify.
I have seen no discussion about any criteria for making them available to people with type 2 on the NHS and, given many people with type 2 fund their own finger prick meter, I don't expect to read anything about it for some time.

That is not to say you cannot fund the Libre yourself if you are interested.
There are many many many many many threads about it on this forum.
You can use the Search function at the top of the page to find them.

Hello and welcome @Maryhs

The libre can be used by anyone even (I hear) non diabetic athletes, however it's not a replacement for finger prick tests due to the accuracy of it, it's just a useful way to track patterns and monitor blood glucose control, for insulin controlled diabetics it's good for checking insulin ratios and timings and the effect of exercise so has many useful advantages with insulin management.
