New Type 1: Bloods in the night

Hi all.
I'm testing my bloods before sleeping and they are usually between 6-7 ish (newly diagnosed type 1)
Then throughout the night my bloods increase and I am waking to bloods in the range of 9-11.
Anyone know why this is please? My evening meal is about 1730-1800 hours and bedtime is about 2200hrs ish.
Thanks
Rich

Are you testing during the night at all? You could possibly be dropping too low if you are waking up much higher. I've been having this problem myself the last few nights so I'm adjusting my basal dosage. My endo also told me not to go to bed less than 8 on my meter... not sure if everyone gets told this? ... but definitely seems to work for me usually. I've just had some other health issues going on this week and my sugar is out of whack again. I hope you can get your levels right. Maybe set your alarm to test between 2-3 am.... that's usually the timeframe they recommend we check our BGLs. I need to do this again too as trying to avoid hypos. I wish you the best. :)

Thanks for your reply.
I tested at 0130 this morning because I was letting the dog out lol. My blood was 12.4 I'd had nothing to eat after 1800hrs. Throughout the day I'm doing well it's just in the night I'm concerned. I'm using degludec and novorapid

It could be a bit of dawn phenomenon, or it could just be that your basal insulin isn't enough to keep you steady overnight.

You might need to have a look at basal testing - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/

You could try using a libre sensor to see what's happening overnight, which comes at a cost but I think worth it. Helped me loads. I agree that basal testing is critical too. I've had type 1 for 25 years this May and only now just understanding, with the help of this forum, how important it is. For me, choosing LCHF is the best decision I've ever made too. But, there's lots of other opinions here. I've also not long switched basal insulin from lantus to tresiba, so that may be an option.

Hope everything goes well.

I second the suggestion to do a basal test. Basal is the foundation of good control.

Do bear in mind that your blood sugar will be a bit erratic due to the honeymoon period, so test plenty. I recommend the book Think Like A Pancreas. It's fantastic for Type 1s
