Hi everyone. My name's Catherine and diagnosed four months ago- type 1. Take lantus at night and novorapid (carb counted) with meal.
Been coping quite well so far but would like to ask how do people manage with injecting when eating out?
Mainly because you never know how long it'll be before a meal arrives at table and secondly, I never know whether to give injection discreetly at table or rush off to loo.

if unsure of the time in which the meal will arrive just have your injection as the food is served, don't rush off to the loo to inject as toilets are unhygienic places to take your insulin and you should just take it whilst sat at the table.

Injecting once your food's in front of you will also give you the chance to assess/check the carb content too.

Also, when eating out, I'always test after eating, or even part way through the meal just to make sure my insulin dose was right for what I ate.

As Noblehead says, inject at the table. You'd be surprised how little other people notice, or care if they do notice.

Thanks for that

thanks for advice, it's a big learning curve for sure

Hi. Yes, I always inject at the table now and most people never notice. I guess it does depend on what you are wearing. As a bloke I usually wear a shirt or lose top but I guess it may be more difficult for someone in a dress etc in which case the thigh might be an option?
