New Type 2 - why me?

Great you've found the forum - you will get excellent support and advice from the great people here.
Somewhere else to look as you research is www.teambloodglucose.com. You may find the type 2 diabetes kit bag of some use.
Keep the positive attitude, and Non Munchit Carbonara ;)

In general I have started to reduce my sugar intake by removing anything I put sugar into/onto like in coffee (now drinking it black), porridge, etc. My good lady wife is also spending time on here and other places looking at food and cooking ideas (I'm afraid I rely on her totally to eat!), and we have tried several nice meals where I didn't even notice there was less or no sugar. I'm not a great lover of pasta so that isn't an issue, but I LOVE chilli, so reducing the rice content and changing to brown still allows me to indulge in my favourite food. My wife is now cooking it without the chilli sauce she used to add and has found out how to create her own which tastes great - spicy and hot.

All in all life's pretty OK so far, and as long as I take the tablets and eat sensibly I don't see any major issues ahead hopefully. Just need to lose a few pounds so have started using a pushbike to go to work (2 miles) which I will get more used to, and I now walk the dog further (not that he is complaining as he would walk for England).

So trying to maintain my normal 'glass is half-full' approach to life despite adding one more thing to the apparently growing list of ailments as I get older, but I remind myself just how many people in the world would happily trade their existence for mine ........

went to see my doctor at the hospital today about my diabetes but hadnt managed to have my blood test so took my blood glucose tester for them to see. i was still a little worried as no matter how hard i try i wasnt getting my glucose count between 5-7 which is what my doctors diabetes nurse had said i needed it to be. you can imagine my confusion when he told me that my count which averages from 9-13 was fantastic he told me that this sort of count is what he would hope my glucose would stay at so asked him about the 5-7 and he told me he would not expect me to have a count below that but if I got into the low 5s then i need to worry sort of thing lol.Because my counts were always up in the double figures i thought i was doing something wrong. I just wish that my nurse at my Docs had fully explained that to me as my hospital Doctor said he would only expect a 5-7 count from someone without Diabetes. So PHEWWWWW all my worries are over lol. And just as an after thought i had no history of this in my family until i was diagnosed with this in december of 2012

Ask them to give you an HbAlc test. If the value of that is greater than 8 then you need to look out! What the nurse told you about 5-7 is correct. Getting there is hard!!!! But that is what the doctor and dietician are for. Good luck!

Hi Sean, I agree with Totto, you really don't want your bg to stay between 9-13 this is too high, most people on here can achieve bg between 5-7 by reducing carbohydrates, have a look round the site and read some of the other posts and forums, there is a lot of information and tips for lowering your bg levels. If you are not sure about something ask questions, there are a lot of people on here who are very knowledeable and offer far better advice than the so called doctor you saw at the hospital.
