I've just joined the site today after recently diagnosed type2.I've lost 2.5 stones in 4wks and I'm still losing about 3 pounds a week.I thought id cancer and for 2wks I was up peeing and drinking water all night.I hadn't been to the doctor for 15yrs but I went and the nurse did that finger prick and it was 27.4.The doc said my diabetes is bad.Im on metformin 1000mg slow release morning and night but through the day my vision is blurry and my left foot is numb.About 6pm I start to feel better.I recently got new tv glasses from opticians but in the evening I can't see the tv through them and have to use my old tv glasses.I see this as a sign my blood sugar is more under control in the evening than in the morning. It's really getting me down and it's depressing me.I've only been on metformin a few weeks and I'm just hoping someone will tell me they take a while to kick in.I bought a blood glugose machine and my numbers seem ok through the day but I'm still getting symptoms of high blood sugar,I think.

Welcome Big Jim!
Let me reassure you that by obtaining a BG Meter you are heading in the right direction. All the folks here are really helpful, and encouraging. You are about to embark on a long journey, there will be some bumps in the road, but by your determination, and yours alone you will get to grips with this, and your health and well being will improve.
There is a saying in business "If it ain't measured it ain't managed" So test and retest, before meals and 2 hours after meals. If the after meal reading shoots up then you know that something on your plate doesn't agree with you, adjust the meal next time by removing an ingredient at a time. Eventually you will find the culprit. It seems daunting at first, but with time you will find the 'New normal' and a healthier you

Hi and welcome. Was the weight loss sudden and unexpected? Were you already reasonably slim? If so and the blood sugar doesn't come down with a low-carb diet, then there's a possibility you are Late onset T1 (LADA) and not T2. If this is the case, the GP can do two tests for that and the medication should change to another tablet or be added. If you were overweight to start with then carry on together with a low-carb diet and your blood sugar should come down and the blurry eyes will come good again.
