New Year, New LCHF Me

Forgive me for wondering but is this thread real or is the OP randomly chucking in odd food choices like 2 whole chickens and 4 weetabix? I do not want to cause ructions but it does all sound pretty strange to me. Most students can't afford to eat anything other than noodles!!!

Ali

Not all uni students eat noodles. tbh I have not seen my friends at halls eat noodles.

You've mentioned your wallet several times now. It's a massive red herring. You didn't exactly eat 4 weetabix for breakfast as a result of having your wallet on you when you went out. Loads of us go out with our wallets every single day and yet don't buy carby food when we're out. Your wallet isn't the issue - the issue is that your carb cravings are strong and your blood sugar very uncontrolled. If you really want to take control of this, you have to find a way to beat the first few days (which are hard, let's make no bones about it) by doing proper, full-on low carbing with not a single cheat. None. Not even a little one. Once you've done that, it's an awful lot easier. Set yourself up by filling up your house and your bag with whatever low-carb high fat foods you like and getting rid of the other stuff.

blood sugar levels this morning were 13.5 before having 4 eggs scrambled with cheese. 2 hours later 12.6,. had a tin of mackerel with mayo and a mini babybel at 12:30 and blood sugar decreased to 9.6 and now at 8.5

Last night my blood sugar levels were at 9.2 at 9:30pm after having 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a doughnut. This morning they were at 11.8 at 11:30am before I had 4 scrambled eggs and cheese and they are now at 9.1 at 2:30pm.

Well breakfast was good anyway. Pizza and a doughnut though? I know it's tough but I would strongly suggest you don't have these types of carbs until your BG's are well under control, and than only as a once in a while 'treat'. It doesn't matter whether you're following LCHF or the high protein diet you talked about - pizza and doughnuts don't fit into either.

You can do this akindrat.

Thanks for the support zand. I only ate the toppings of the pizza and gave the crust to a friend who then turned their pizza slices into a calzone, as for the doughnut i only had the one from dominos. So far today i've had a never ending headache and i've felt jittery since midday, now my blood sugar has dropped to 7.7. I've told myself that if I can get my blood sugar levels down to 4-6 by Sunday, I will reward myself by having a tattoo done next week.

I did wonder about the pizza....yes I have just the topping sometimes too :) the topping is where the taste and nutrition is :)

Keep it up:)

yeah i had a meatilicious pizza that had pepperoni, ham, chicken breast strips, smoked bacon rashers, cumberland sausage for toppings.

Hi I've been reading your posts and I'm so glad you are getting to terms with carbs, perhaps these links may help with the carb craving
For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy, I went cold turkey and it's a hard few days

I often have pizza toppings only - it's a good way to not miss out on things like takeaway pizza. Well done for that! Re the doughnut, why not eat more slices of pizza topping next time rather than just 2, so that you're full enough not to need a doughnut?
Dropping carbs can, in the first few days, feel awful, because the body is so used to having sugar and will try anything to get you to give it the sugar it's used to. But once you get past that stage it's all so much easier.

I did feel full after having the toppings and chicken wings, but i had the doughnut as i felt left out as my friends also ordered from a american dessert takeaway place and the doughnut had only 20 grams of carbs, which added to the 10 grams of carbs i had throughout the day.

Yes, I can understand the feeling of being left out and not being like your friends, but I'm afraid that's a fact. You and I are not like our friends, junk carbs such as doughnuts are not food at all, they are like a toxin to us. So your friends have a treat which is OK (not good!) for them. You need to try to do the same.....have a treat that is OK or even good for you. Do you like dark chocolate? The bar I have at home at the moment is 90% cocoa. 2 squares =2.8g carbs. What's more it's actually nutritious and tasty and can help our mood. 2 squares is plenty as the taste is so strong. Is it possible to take some with you for a treat? Try to opt for things that are really tasty, because the bland carbs don't do anything for you. Part of feeling satiated is satisfying our taste buds, then the hunger goes away.

I think you need to try to think of nutrition being the treat for you and your body. Junk carbs are not nutrition, they put a strain on your body and make you ill.

I'm at my lowest blood sugar level in several months at 6.8 just now. I forgot to test this morning when I had 2 ryvitaa fruiit crunch crispbread, followed by swimming for 1 1/2 hours at 10:15 am and my blood sugar after that was 7.8 at midday. the carb cravings is hitting me hard as I can't think straight, my body has gonee into shake mode, i can't concentrate and i feel like that if i don't have some shortbread that i bought from sainsburys, that i'm going to faint. I also bought some ham slices on my way to the uni library. Its no wonder people are addicted to carbs, my cravings are really powerful.

Yes they are powerful, but the more you resist them the less powerful they will become. Hang on in there. It will be worth it in the end :)

Brilliant....now next time it happens think how you won't want to waste all the effort you made this time and try to do the same again. You really will get there. Well done :)
