Hi Everyone, newbie allowed to join. Early days for me, but I had some unrelated medical issues and discovered that I should've been made aware that I was type 2 diabetes in August 2022. My two blood tests were 55 & 56, at the time. That still doesn't mean anything to me, he naively says, but apparently this quite high. Just had recent blood tests taken, and they'll be discussed with me on 24th May 2023, via local doctor. Currently not taking anything for it, but that will probably change in the near future.

Greetings.

My HbA1c was 56 at diagnosis, that's not horribly high - many people here start with it in the 90s or over 100.

I wasn't given medication for diabetes, I was given a phone appointment with a dietician, and details of how to join a website (in Scotland) which lets me see a lot of my records online. I usually see my blood test results within a couple of days.

Mine was in the 50s at first - I turned down the extra drugs, bought a meter, and tested before then 2 hrs after every meal at first so I could understand how many carbs I can eat.
Now I'm in remission I have a few more carbs without any issues.

Hi. What was the website you were given please. I have got some access to my records, but not detailed information like results of blood tests. Thank you

The scottish diabetes info is provided via

The provided log-in is a common one for Scottish government services including some local councils.

You can view;
- all past prescriptions
- blood test results related to diabetes
- other measurements if ever taken (weight etc)
Note this includes before you were diabetic.

You can also add your own targets and your own data such as waist measurements.

Regarding meds, every diabetic is different, why risk avoidable damage to your body while trying to sort the carb levels in your diet out?

A HbA1c of 55 is in the diabetic range, but not dramatically, heart-stoppingly high. With just a few adjustments in diet, you're likely to be back in the normal range in a matter of weeks. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help a little, should you choose the dietary route... And if not, then there are other ways to get your numbers down. Two important things: A meter'll tell you what foods agree with you, and which don't, so an excellent investment. The other: practically all carbs turn to glucose once ingested. Cut carbs, lower blood sugars. (Hello, bacon & eggs!)

Fifty-five.... You're going to be back to good in no time at all! :)
