Hello my names Verity and I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes 3 weeks ago. I am very confused by the diagnosis, but my dr is adamant that they are doing the right thing for me. My mother has type 2 diabetes and is now on insulin, and I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy nearly 6 years ago, so I knew my risk factor was high. I was admitted to A & E just before christmas after collapsing (not the first time might i add). The hospital tested my blood sugar which was 10.2, but i had only eaten an hour and half previous to this. I was then referred back to my gp with suspected diabetes. I had a load of blood tests done and a urine test, all of which have come back with everything in the normal ranges, but due to the fact I am high risk, I am overweight (even though i have dramatically lost 5 stone very quickly), I keep having hypos and I don't eat so have some ketones, they are now treating me as diabetic. I am on diet and exercise only at the moment, and due to my regular hypos, have to test my sugars regularly. The dr has told me that due to the fact that I rarely eat, it was very hard to get true readings from my blood tests. I'm finding this all a little overwhelming and to be honest hard to swallow. When I was pregnant I was on diet only and my levels kept going far too low even though i was eating a balanced diet. Has anyone else ever experienced this, because my mother although a huge help and reassurance to me, doesn't quite understand what is happening either. Many thanks :?
