Welcome. It’s great that you have a nurse giving good information about carbs and that you can test yourself. You’ll soon see results. Are you confident about where carbs are hidden away? Would any guidance be useful?
Keep a close eye on your levels and make sure the medication gets adjusted as required as the numbers come down. You quite probably won’t need so much if you aren’t eating so many carbs. I understand sitaglyptin increases insulin release as well as decreases glucose release by the liver . Ideally most type 2 are looking to lower the insulin levels (usually high already) by having lower glucose levels and improving the body’s response to more normal insulin levels so high ones are no longer required (improving insulin sensitivity or reducing insulin resistance)
Hi everyone I am 62 had type 2 for 10 years or more, managed to lose 6 stone, over those years,I look back and think how on earth did I do that. I started having problems 2 years ago with control of sugars, so was put on more Metformin and citiglyptin, sorry for spelling. Then I started having problems with what I think is nerve pain in lower legs, however I have spondylitis of the spine,so that could be the culprit.IN the last year nurse advising diet for type 2 etc.sugars still high did everything nurse said and boy can I stick to a diet, then she mentioned about low carb diet, which I discovered porridge with semi skimmed milk with a banana as well was putting my sugars to 15 on a morning.never understood carbs,I lost all my weight with calorie counting, which was popular in my day to lose weight,I realise now too many carbs,so I’m trying this way of eating now.sorry to be boring,I’m not really good at explaining things on my I pad,I’m only just getting into this technology,so her for guidance and interest reasons.
hi thanks for this info, the nurse put me on a tablet pioglitazone, but hard to stomach them, felt sick all the time, says I will be going on insulin if they can’t get sugars down,I really don’t want to be on insulin injections and very afraid after seeing the performance my mother had,and the times we found her on the floor.I will be gratefull for any advice on carbs to see if this works for me.A doctor once told me if I lose weight I probably won’t be diabetic at all. I lost all the weight and still am? Thanks anywayWelcome. It’s great that you have a nurse giving good information about carbs and that you can test yourself. You’ll soon see results. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ might help a little, in addition to the links others gave you (dietdoctor.com is fab). It takes a little while to get your head around it, but once you do, it's relatively easy to stick to. Keep testing, keep trying, and you'll be alright. (Just steer clear of porridge and banana's for starters.Hi everyone I am 62 had type 2 for 10 years or more, managed to lose 6 stone, over those years,I look back and think how on earth did I do that.
