Type 2
I'm a bit confused!! On my info on my glucose monitor it says to get help if my blood is below 2.8 or over 13.9. I have a diary to fill in my results but who am I supposed to tell? I have an eating disorder which doesn't help and I also take steroids for chronic asthma. What should I do if my results are over 13.9.? I dont feel much different but I'm worried as my results are high at the moment and I'm too scared to eat in case it goes even higher.any help would be appreciated.thankyou.

Hi. Are you type 1 or type 2, what meds are you treating the diabetes with?

I'm type 2 and not on meds.i'm supposed to be diet controlled but I have the eating disorder shich ive had all my adult life and I'm 58 yrs old female.

If you're diet controlled you don't need to worry about low readings as they won't happen. But you will need to see your diabetes team about the high readings.

I would check with your doctor or nurse whether the steroids for your asthma might be making your blood sugar higher. Some steroids can, but I'm not sure about asthma ones.

Also - sorry to,ask, but is your doctor/nurse aware of your eating disorder? If they are, maybe you could ask for help and support in dealing with Type 2 and that at the same time. There are other people with eating disorders here so please don't think you're alone.

Can you tell us a little more about how high your sugar is and what kind of things you're eating (if your ok talking about that, of course)

Today they have been 13.8 , 13.9 14.3 then the last one flashed up as high.should I eat something now or leave it until morning in case it goes even higher?

The first thing to do is to wash your hands and retest just to make sure the reading is correct. Even a tiny dot of something on your finger can affect the reading.

If it is reading High that means your blood sugar is too high for the meter to,read (usually above 33mmol). If you've washed your hands, checked all's working ok,and still getting a High, I'd give 111 a call for advice just to be safe. If your blood sugar is around 13 or 14 then you could leave it till tomorrow and speak to your nurse.

If you're hungry, try something without many carbs eg a piece of cheese, some nuts, lettuce, etc.

If it were me a would check again after washing my hands to make sure there's nothing sweet is contaminating the blood sample. If it still reads high then your blood very very high.

* blood sugar is

My doctor is aware of my eating disorder.ive gone from anorexia to bulimia and only last week did I get any help
A lady came to my doctors surgery to see me and shes going to refer me to am eating disorder specialist.i had a hip replacement about 2 months ago and a nurse on the ward noticed I'd been sick after eating and she asked me if I wanted to talk about it and I found myself telling her everything, for the first time in my life I actually told someone and it felt good to open up.my eating disorder is strange as I eat the same thing every day for days on end.i might put a bowl of frozen veg in microwave and eat it maybe once or twice a day and this is the same everday until I get fed up of veg then I may have 2 boiled eggs a day until I get fed up of eggs. Since being diagnosed ive tried to eat other foods but its hard going.if I feel like icecream I'll eat lots then make myself sick.I know my body needs food but I'm finding it really hard at the moment as i dont
Really understand how diabetes works in my body. I'm going to see a diabetes doctor at the hospital om 20th of this month so hopefully he will explain things to me.i cant understand how I can get high readings when I dont eat much x x

My doctor is very old school and thinks I should just go home and get a good meal down me!!!

Even if you're being sick afterwards, it could be somehow that's still putting your sugar up if you eat a lot? It would be worth asking. Stress - both physical and emotional - can put blood sugar up too.

It's good you're getting a referral for help :)

The nurse at the hospital contacted my doctor and told him I needed help with my eating which is why I'm finally going to see someone.hopefully being diagnosed with type 2 may be the kick up my butt I need to conquer the disorder! I just need to know which foods I should be eating x

Ive just washed my hands and tested again and its 10.6.
Breath easy, you are newly diagnosed and there is a long road ahead I was running 16's for much of last year. I would have given up a lot for a 10.6 back then

Ok - good :)

That's a little higher than ideal but not an immediate issue :) I'm sure your readings will gradually improve, especially when you get the extra support.

That's good news, I was getting worried for you. Still a bit high but nothing urgent.

Thankyou to the people who have taken time to read my posts and offer their help..appreciated xx
