Hi Folks
Was diagnosed a decade ago & managed to pass annual blood tests with the help of 500mg Metformin/day but this has risen to 2000mg/day over the last couple of years. My GP wanted to add a second tablet type but said that an increase from 1500 to 2000mg plus a low-carbs diet may do the job. My current HbA1c is 60mmol/mol.
I'm waiting for an appointment with a dietician & a trainer but thought that I would consult these forums to learn a bit more about low-carb eating & which blood sugars' monitor to buy if I'm going to check out different foods.
One recommendation I've seen here frequently is granola plus plain Greek yogurt. Thought this could sort my breakfast eating. Found some high-protein granola, to which I could add some chia seed, but couldn't find the yogurt. Lots of Greek style! But I did see some plain goats' yogurt so I went with this. On the two occasions I've tried this I have felt unwell within minutes! Not nauseous - just a bit giddy & the feeling I've eaten something that doesn't agree with me. Any thoughts?
I took delivery today of a Gluco RX Nexus monitor. There's so many to choose from! Couldn't find any recommendations so went with this as it runs off AAA batteries & can download results to a PC via USB. Strip & lance prices looked OK but I guess this is where suppliers make their money.
Carried out my first test two hours after lunch - ham on white roll plus water. The result was 9.9mmol/L which fits with the GP's 60mm/mol.
