newbie with problems!!

@chiefsub68 - There is a vegetarian thread were members post each day what foods/meals they have eaten. Bear with me as there are some technical problems this evening on the Forum, and I am having some bother with it!
Go to the top of this page and click on the word FORUMS, then scroll down until you come to FOOD and NUTRITION and there you will see headings for different diets etc, hope this is of some help to you? But do keep us updated how you are getting on with your testing and results. I think daisy1 will probably post the information again for you? Liam1955:)

@Liam1955 Hi Liam - the meter arrived today. First reading after breakfast (a couple of Weetabix and milk) was 15, second (after a 50km bike ride and a vegetarian English breakfast) was 10, and it's now down to 5.2 before my tea. Is that sort of range normal? Many thanks.

Hi. Just thought I'd add that noting times is useful too. I am testing way, way less now, but did test maybe 6-8 times a day regularly until I sussed out what was working for me personally. Now, if I do test it's out of curiosity or following some new grub or to see how I react to something I am treating my self to. I recorded time, reading before and 2.5 hours after meals and soon arrived at an approach which has kept my average levels down to "pre-diabetic" levels (c. 7.0mmols) for over 6 months without meds (having started with a reading above 20mmols at diagnosis). Basically, the whole thing was down to cutting carbs right down. Anyway - in answer to your question... I would expect to be around 5.6-6.4 on waking and maintain something similar until I eat carbs. So, I would have been 14-18 after 2 weetabix and milk (as with pretty much any cereal..and milk). I often do have my "treat" every second day with bran flakes (as low a carb content as it gets but still not good) or a croissant (again not great...but its pretty much the only high carb I eat at any point). I'd advise against it regardless! So - yeah..I'd say the above readings would be what I would expect too. If you do want to hit the low numbers - skip cereal completely...and 50km is a hell of a lot!!! Good luck.

@Tawa93 - Hello:). You say you only began taking the Metformin a couple of weeks ago. Metformin takes time to build up in your system and you might begin to see a slight effect. But it can take up to a couple of months to reach it's full effect, but please be patient. And always take Metformin with food - never on an empty stomach as it may well cause you to have Stomach upsets.
