I have controlled with diet for years but now on meds. I have acute diviticular disease and on a low residue diet. No skins pips or high fibre etc. I am feeling my way. Anyone in same boat.. I am on cosmocol twice day to help with keeping from getting construction. Also on meds for high Bp. Just had to have my beautiful Akita put to sleep and she had been unwell for last 6 month. A harrowing time for me. I took it hard. Now dealing with meds for t2. Trying to get my like back didnt realised what an intact her passing would have. Now concentrate on improving with health.

Hey chrisrine13#, welcome to the Forum....first off, sorry for your loss of your precious companion, friend....I have grieved each and every dog that we have had over the years - and still miss them, but remember just how great they were and the perfect dog for that season of our lives. Our Belle is 10 now...still active, but some day....I hope you will hold many lovely memories of her in your heart. They really are a good thing - pets that is. Perhaps one day you will get another bundle of joy!

Diverticular disease is not easy, for sure, but as you say, feeling your way with that and the T2 - a lot to handle and process....I would suggest that it is paramount to concentrate on the low residue diet and maybe try to cut some high carby food out of your diet as well, which will help with the bgs....take it one day at a time...don't forget to breathe along the way!! You will find all kinds of support here and don't be afraid to ask any question - as you can see when you read around here that they run the full gammot! We are here for you! Blessings/L

I have severe IBSD so know what it is like to try and find foods that you can eat and not have to suffer the consequences....good luck!

Hi,
Welcome to the forum
I'm ever so sorry about the loss of your dog, I had to have my border collie put to sleep. It is heartbreaking.
Sorry about your diagnosis's.
Take care

Hello @christine13# ,

I had a colostomy to deal with diverticular disease and they found out I was diabetic during the operation.

It's not easy dealing with one of them, never mind both of them, but it can be done. I was put on insulin straight away, but after five and a half years and a bit of a rollercoaster ride I've just come off it and gone onto metformin.

I'm a little concerned given the possible side effects, but so far at least they don't seem too bad.

What medication are you taking?

I am on forxiga 5mg. At mo i am doing okay i think as i am doing low residue with low carb and losing weight. My first visit with dn next week so i hope she says i just carry on as i am. I have found sugarfree jelly a great dessert with cream.
My numbers have come down although only been doing it a week. I find that jacket potato and panini put my numbers up. Have weight watchers breads as less carb and okay with my diviticular disease. I try things and test as it gives me a good picture of what it does to me. I feel better now than 3 weeks ago. Had too much to cope with at once. Bp was too high, pulse rates too fast and going on diabetic tablets and having to say goodbye to my dog.

Still i am progressing. Many thanks to everyone for help. I feel so positive and focussed now.

You've had a lot going on. Just take things steady and try not to worry about things. You'll find a way that works for you I'm sure.

Good luck with the DN visit - let us know how you get on?

My Mother-in-law has the same condition as you, and at its worst it was acute for her.

She now does LCHF, after talking to her daughter (my wife) about the real food approach, which has worked well for me. It seems to have reduced her inflammation to the point where she can tolerate raspberries and strawberries, which were a no go area previously.

Sorry to hear about your woes. I have T2, IBS and diverticular. I have found that lots of fibre helps enormously with all of them. We are all different but it might be worth a try

I wonder if Eat Water Slim rice and pasta might suit you? They have only 9 calories per 100g and 0 carbs but 4g fibre , which might or might not be OK for you. I only recently discovered them and they have transformed my meals, as they are IMO a good imitation of real rice and pasta, but without the carbs. AND they are currently on offer from Holland & Barratt. Another thing I like about them is that they require no cooking - just rinsing and heating up. http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/eat-water-slim-rice-60007572

My fingers are crossed too! I shall feel awful if you don't like it. Don't be put off by the smell when you open the packet. It really does go away as soon as you rinse.
Take your word for it. But we shall see. Thought i should buy a few packets while they are half price. Perhaps heating and adding cream and splenda will make rice pudding. Maybe worth a try.

I wondered about that too. Don't overdo the heating, as the stuff is already cooked, just needs warming up. I ate the rice again this evening and I really don't think it seemed different from real white rice. Of course it doesn't have the taste and texture of brown rice, alas, but you can't have everything. I have gone rather overboard and when my next consignment arrives I will have enough to eat twice a day for 3 months!!! I just hope I don't go off it.

Sounds promising. i dont eat brown rice only white so may not notice. How many g per packet as the 9 carbs etc is for 100g.

I have diverticular and have been hospitalised twice with it, I found going lower carb has helped enormously and I can eat most things now - but be careful with those slim noodles - only have a small portion to try and see - they nearly killed me I was in agony with them and got all bunged up and nasty ended up on antibiotics- not wanting to frighten you but didn't want you to suffer - apparently they swell in your stomach (not sure if that's true) which is why I caution you to have a small portion:)

200g per packet drained weight. 100g is plenty for me, so I take out 100g and leave the 2nd 100g in the fluid in the packet in the fridge for the next time.

I take cosmocol twice a day and was told by consultant hhat it would be for life. I have diviticular in all my inside but seem to be managing okay. Low residue hasreally helped me. Thanks for warning . i was originally diagnosed with IBS 30 years ago and then 2 years ago told i had extensive diviticular and i had apparently had it for years. Was eating high fibre for Ibs then found was doing me more harm eating pips seeds skins and so called healthy foods.
