Hi, I was diagnosed Type Two about two months ago now.. Bit of a shock but I accepted it and with the help of metformin and change of diet, I lost 11lb in four weeks and my mmol dropped.. However, I'm struggling to keep on the straight and narrow right now.. Maybe I haven't accepted this as well as I thought.. Anyone else feel or been through something similar ?

Hello and welcome @Treee39

For sure it can be difficult. My motivation is seeing my weight drop off and my levels coming down. I am quite competitive - not with others but with myself. I keep records and graphs of my levels before and after food etc. and hate it if the trend lines aren't coming down, so I try harder. My weight did all come off so my focus now is keeping it stable. I'm a bit of a data geek though.

Do you get any support from your family? My husband is very encouraging, so that also helps.

Is there anything we can do to help?

Thanks for the kind words..It's kind of weird that I thought I had got a grip on things when it seems I actually haven't

Treee39, don't beat yourself up, I am 2 months in since being diagnosed, lost 4lbs but did not need to lose that. Being vegetarian I have found the low carb diet quite difficult and I have stepped off the wagon a couple of times but have found I have suffered afterwards lol. I have found out since that white flour is very hard to digest/tolerate and that helps in keeping away from it. For the past month I have used wholegrain spelt flour and that is easier as long as I don't have loads, I try to stick to no more than 100gms of carbs and some days are a lot less. mmol was 22 when first diagnosed and my highest since has been 9mmol but mostly around 7.5-8.0mmol. My doctor very stupidly (in my opinion) said if you don't go above 10 then don't worry about it!
Keep at it, it will get easier.

Hi @Treee39 - Just take one day at a time and try not to worry as this will only raise your Blood Sugars.
We all deal differently with the initial diagnosis and for some it is an emotional rollercoaster. But, once you get into a routine, it will get easier and you will be fine. :)
Ask loads of questions, no matter how daft you might think they are!
