Hi Waiting to see the nurse on monday as just diagnosed as type 2. Dreading seeing the nurse as very overweight and I know exactly what she will say. I feel bad enough that I have done this to my body as only 41yrs without her lecture Have tried all the diets in the world with little effect and each time stopped, weight put back on. I have lots of "issues " with my weight and am being treated for depression. The meds for this havnt helped the weight (put on a stone since starting them). Why wont my GP start me straight onto metformin as I am told this would help with weight loss instead of telling me to lose weight? Am I going to be able to lose weight being a diabetic? Just feeling really sorry for myself :(

Hi Middie and a warm welcome to the forum :)

Don’t beat yourself up about all this; let’s just have a look at what is happening.

What do you normally eat during a typical day? What did you eat today? There are many people on here who will be able to help point you in the right direction.

Don’t anticipate a lecture by the diabetic nurse either, hopefully she will be very kind – but in any case do let us know what happens on Monday.

They may not necessarily put you on medication either as they may let you have a go with changing your diet first, with the help of others on the forum it has worked with many of us so it is a possibility. Apparently metformin only makes a marginal contribution to lowering the BG levels and diet, as in what you actually eat, is often the key.

If you have any questions there will be someone on here to answer them. :D

Thanks feeling better today :) Will let you know how it goes with the nurse and hopefully with the help of the forum will be able to understand whats going on and how to deal with it all.
Thanks again. :D
