Hi I was diagnosed six weeks ago with type two diabetes. Struggling to get a grip on it and how to get my levels down and what is ok to eat and what’s a real no go. Any advice would be great.
Thank you
Garry

I opted to switch to low carb immediately rather than take metformin or statins - and both my blood sugar and triglycerides fell quickly.

Don't be fooled by recommendations to eat brown bread, rice etc - they contain virtually the same carbs as white and carbs are digested into sugars in our bodies.

I eat chicken, eggs, fish, cheese, etc plus green veg and salad, cauliflower rice, or mushrooms with bacon and half a tomato, then full-fat greek yogurt with a few berries or a fake rhubarb crumble (ground almonds instead of wheat flour).
Sometimes I make a low carb cake/dessert otherwise my treat is a little 85% chocolate.
I don't tolerate eggs well in the morning so make up a keto 'porridge' that is mainly milled flaxseed.

Welcome Garry
Carbohydrates when digested will turn to glucose and cause your levels to rise.
So base your meals around any meat, fish, egg's cheese or other protein if you don't eat meat.
Above ground leafy veg and salads and healthy fats like olive oil, butter.
Avoid as much as possible bread (all types and colours) rice, pasta, spuds and most fruit
Have a look at the link below for the nutritional thingy, for some useful information, and here's a couple of other links you might find useful

Hi Garry,

Sorry about the diagnosis, but you've gotten excellent advice so far. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html is a tiny bit more in-depth, but not so much as to be overwhelming, I hope. Basically, cut carbs, and get thee a meter! ;) It'll let you know how you're doing and how you respond to what.

You'll be alright!
Jo

More or less I have the same diet, some items which I don’t eat from the above items: no butter, no cheese, only chicken and salmon.
Half small and thin slice bread, my total bread intake of the day 6 grams. My numbers are in the non diabetic range. I am Pre diabetic for over 13 years and I don’t take any medicine. Thanks for your good suggestions and advice.
