Newcastle DIet - Optifast replacement

I'd like to give the Newcastle Diet a go but see that Optifast is prescription only?????

I've read lots of stuff but there doesn't seem to be a statement about optifast alternatives (just "There are other supplements available".)

For those who have done this did you insist your doctor gave you a prescription or did you use an alternative - if so which one.

Also how well did it work for you?
