Newcastle Diet results so far

Flashtash2014, thanks for all the info; it has made me even more determined to do the diet after my liver scan on the 23rd even if it comes back as a non fatty liver (can they tell that from a liver scan or will it just tell me if I have cirrhosis or a tumour, both very unlikely I hope?) as I have nothing to lose except some weight. I will stop if I go much below 6 stone but being thin already 800 calories a day isn't such a drop as I need a lot less calories than someone who is overweight just to keep ticking over.
I was never really overweight on the outside my BMI was slightly over normal I had made provisions for weight increase hence going down to just over 60kg have since put on about 5lbs now the hard work starts in maintaining this weight at this point. As you have so kindly told me Arab horse your weight is not the issue so what I would do instead of doing the 800 cals deviate this to maybe 1000-1200 but over a longer period say 12 weeks. So it's less of a shock to your slim body I'm not quite sure what you are expecting from your liver scan but I'm sure they will tell you there and then and so hope that it's nothing too serious. Everybody's circumstance is different i deviated the ND to suit me I wanted rapid weight loss as soon as I'm a very impatient sort of guy :) so I only did the 2 shakes and a salad only with some mild exercise no oils or reduced fat flavourings etc for any problems for gallstones. Touch wood I never had any issues in that area but increased my water intake to 3-5 litres a day. I have my next set of bloods mid April so will know more how things have gone after that but so far all is good in fact I'm a 45 year old with the energy of a teenager waking up at 5 every morning for a run with no tiredness or fuzziness.

Haha AndBreathe I have put a little weight back on in the first week only to be expected about 5lbs but I compensated this by loosing extra weight. I'm still taking in 3-4 litres of water a day especially now that I have started running again in the mornings before work helping me to maintain this weight if I loose a bit more weight not really concerned with that it's no great shakes pardon the pun :) but as I said will know more mid April when I have my next set of bloods so until then I'm on a rush of confidence and elation at my achievements

What has happened with your weight since reverting to "proper" food? I would probably expect a modest increase due to the increased food in your system, and maybe fluid retention whilst the increased carbs (holding fluid) go through your system? Again, not a challenge, just I think Prof Taylor suggests weight may rise very slightly, initially, due to these factors?

I may have mis-remembered that last bit of course. Call it age........ (If you dare ;))

If I lose more weight I really would want to regain it when I finish the ND as I am too thin already.

I don't know if I could manage 12 weeks! I did think if my glucose results every day were good I may even be able to cut the time down to say 6 weeks instead of 8 depending on the weight loss. I will have to wait 2 weeks for the result of my liver scan. My DN suggested it before I did the ND as she thought it was unlikely that I am thin outside/fat inside but I would really like to eat a bit more normally. I really, really miss my fruit and am bored with the things I can eat. It would be great to have a slightly more varied diet and keep my glucose lower than it is at present.

I was the same on on the diet I never varied my options at all it was the same salad all of the time nothing else I got sick of veg because of the prep time and cooking veg without any oil was horrendous so salad it was eating my first hot meal in 6 weeks was a strange sensation I managed to hold down a few mouthfuls of a meatball casserole but not for very long before I bought the lot up again. Only then did I wonder what the hell I had done on this insane diet but that fazed out after a few meals but as my stomach had shrunk I was eating the quantity of a 4 year old and gradually built up my tolerance to heavier foods

You can do it's quite easy I have found peanut butter as my new best friend it's tasty sweat and savoury and if you buy a brand called Meridian crunchy or smooth from Holland and Barrett it's got nothing in it apart from peanuts so no added Palm oils or sugar or preservatives and it fills you up you can get an almond version of it too

So nearly 2 weeks on and my BG levels before and after meal s have come in below diabetes UK recommendations and eating normally which is what I intended to do. Introduced some sugars back into the diet eg chocolate to see what my readings would be after meals and had no effects on my readings at all also had a can of normal coke and still had no effect on the readings. I'm not going to test my luck with that test again though reading of 5.9 Further results will be posted in due course

Well done, great to hear you have succeeded; hope you remain in the non diabetic range. Only 8 days until my liver scan and then 2 weeks wait for the result. If all is OK then I will start the ND.

I'm trying to figure out when to stop. I did 5 weeks before Christmas and lost 7-8kg and brought my BMI to under 25, then paused over Christmas and put a couple of kilos back on. I am now on my 18th day of resuming and I have now clawed all the weight gain back and more so my total weight loss since I started is about 10kg, or 11% body weight. By this time next week I hope to lose another 1.5kg. That would bring me down to under 75kg and my BMI would be 23.2. It will be difficult to continue after this time next week as I have some long haul travel coming up and it will be less easy to control my food choices. I will be bringing my meter though. My FBGs are averaging low 5s at the moment. It's almost lunch time and have just done a test and it's 5.1, tummy grumbling...

You are all putting me to shame with your dedication.

Since completing ND 3 years ago and seemingly reversed T2, I have regained a fair bit of weight. Too ashamed to say how much, but I have to stop, even though HbA1c is still non-diabetic, and I am able to eat any type of carb and any amount.

I have to think, very seriously, and plan when I should go VLCD again. It works for me. I tried LCHF, that was heaven to a cheese lover like me. A greedy cheese lover. So the only solution to lose the weight that I know works is VLCD. The last thing I need is to see BG raised again, so I know what I have to do.

Just need to stop putting it off.

Cheese is amazing isnt it, and I will miss it too along with the nuts when I start ND, my breakfast if hot is egg bacon and sausage if cold is just cold meat and cheese like it was today, but I am already preparing my body now, I had 2 slices of chicken slices and little bit of cheese and in afternoon some salad so I have gone really low cal, just waiting for the final push to get on the shakes now.

Creamy porridge for me these days I missed that so much with added seeds and nuts fills me up right till lunchtime. Even with the break over Christmas I would still do the 8 weeks though

I'm been doing ND a week but vegetables only is making me feel sick. Does anyone know if it's ok to only have two shakes and a Very low calorie meal eg broccoli and small chicken breast. I can't stomach another plate of onions!!

I started on 3 shakes but went down to 2 after the first week veg wise I also gave up very quickly stuck to salads after that with lots of herbs and spices but never deviated from the diet and it's worked. Small price to pay 8 weeks of hell for a lifetime without meds as I am now

You don't need to do shakes, just eat anything you like but calorie count everything and no cheating and keep up the water consumption. If not doing shakes and maybe even with I'd recommend a vitamins and mineral supplement - I also have a fish oil supplement.

Thank you. I'll do it for six month as long as I don't have to eat anymore onions.

Oh dear, @Jojo1980 , what are you having for shakes and food?

With the right meal replacements you can swap one for a low calorie meal, such as you suggested. The key is to vary the veg, and use herbs and spices. Make soups, curries with the veg. Roast them, stir fry them, they taste good raw too.

A really good meal replacement recommended to me is Shake That Weight. Only available online. Reasonable price, and low enough in calories to be able to use 3 a day plus a meal of portion of low fat protein with veg. Important to get all nutrients, but if you get bored you are more likely to give up.

As @vit90 mentioned, you do not need to use meal replacement shakes at all. @Andrew Colvin used real food and was successful reversing T2.

Welcome to forum, by the way. I hope you will get all the support you need.
