So I made this year my year to reverse my type 2 diabetes. Have only been diagnosed since last October but it wasn't too much of a shock as being from an Indian background and both my parents being diabetic i was expecting it at some point in my life.

As a lot of you have probably done you do a lot of research especially on the internet. I came across the Newcastle Diet and I saw the light so on the 1st of January of this year after a very heavy Christmas drinking and eating all the wrong foods I decided to give it a go with approval from my GP and here are the results.....

When first diagnosed my BS levels were touching 22 I have now bought it down to averaging under 5-6 and my blood pressure is now well in the normal range.

So after 3 weeks on this diet having had the results of my latest blood tests back my Hba1c is now 42mmo1/1 well under the 53mm01/1 it should be my GP was amazed.

I have lost nearly 7kg in weight over a stone in weight in old money so very near the 15% weight needed to loose but just out of curiosity will be doing the full 8 weeks.

Before anyone asks I'm not overweight I am now just over 11 stone about 71kgs and I am only taking 1 Gliclazide in the morning so a present everything is going to plan :)

I'm going to try and keep regular updates over the coming weeks and months so lets see but thanks clive :)

That's a great, rapid result.

What discussion took place about your Gliclazide, now your HbA1c is just about in the non-diabetic range (42 being the threshold for pre-diabetes, if I recall)?

Hi Andbreathe for the time being just to carry on as I am and to go back and see him in a few weeks I reduced my medication a week ago without his consultation oops but my BS reading were so low barely reaching 4 before and after the shake. My lowest reading was 2.9 but I can honestly say I didn't feel ill at all.

Hi sueky01

I'm using the shake that weight meal replacements far cheaper than anything else on the market and work just as well the optifast are difficult to get hold of and are expensive but as professor Roy Taylor says he only used them in his findings because he was given them by Nestle. Hope that helps :)

I was remembering the low, not the self reduction bit.........

Sounds like your Doc is well on board. When are you having your next HbA1c?

3 months time but I'm giving it upto a year before I know it has really worked or at least improved my system agin

Do you ever feel frustrated? Just curious. I'm keeping a healthy detachment from my head and that kind of thinking, but it's under the surface.

I am getting a bit sick of the lack of variety of what I can and can't eat but I'm just thinking of the long haul

That's my approach, too. All mindset. I can't get three of these shakes down. I do one in the morning, one either before or after a dinner of salad. Haven't tried hot veg, ie. steamed vegetables, after trying to make a soup without oil. Ick ick ick. I'm simply steeling myself for a future of 'freedom'. Responsible freedom, I guess. Thanks for sharing, guys.

Keep going I don't mind the shakes during the week when I'm at work so it takes my mind off the diet. The weekends on the other hand are difficult so much time to think about food all the time even foods I really hated but now seen like heaven. Into the 4th week now and the weight is still dropping off but thankfully at a slower rate than previous but I'm not going to stop now come too far for that :)
