I am in my third week on doing the Newcastle Study Diet and I am having quite good results. I stopped taking my short acting insulin a few days ago because my sugar levels were so low and I have halved my long acting insulin. I have also lost 6 kgs so far and my fbg is around 4. I would love to hear from other members that are doing this diet that are also type 2 on insulin.

One thing I would really like to know is are you REALLY farty after drinking the shakes? I have never had such bad wind in my life! Horrible! I guess this is just one of the side effects I have to put up with. I am also still really hungry. I keep reading blogs from people that say they only have the shakes with none of the veg and they arent at all hungry. How do they do it? I feel hungry all the time and I am eating the 250g of allowable veg as well as the shakes.

I hope to hear from all you other overweight insulin users out there :D

I have just had my third week weigh in and have lost 6.6 kgs! The weight loss seems to have slowed down. I lost 3 kgs in my first week, 2kgs in my second week but only 1.6kgs in my third. Is this normal? I still have really bad wind but I am finding that it has improved slightly since I have been adding less fibre to my shakes. I am also slightly less hungry this week. Still starving but not ravenous!

My FBG is down to around 4 and I have dropped my long acting insulin down to 35units. Was 70 at the start of the diet! I may not be quite satisfied with the weight loss but I am very happy at the reduction of my meds. Loving it :)

Well done!, I am going to start this diet on Monday I have been type 2 since 2003 and on all the tablets possible as well as 60 units lantusinjections. Let's see if it will work for someone who has been diabetic for so long
