Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi just a quick update .
had my first meeting with the dietician today and one of the first things she says its a waste of time and money testing your bg as type 2's dont have to she also told me that i can eat all carbs in moderation just not white b . read [] all I can say is thank goodness for the help and advice on here......has anybody else had a similar experience............Jim(confused.com) lol

Your dietician phoned in a recorded message from the 1970s. Unfortunately this experience is typical.

Hi Jim, not had mine yet but anticipating something very similar - except that I feel like going in and saying "do you mind if I start?" and then presenting my own test results and measurements based on my change to LCHF and more exercise. Then see how he/she responds to that! Seriously, I'm aiming to at least put off any recommendation for metformin until my next tests and hopefully do without drugs altogether.

Hi Marilyn,
thanks for the reply i have been testing before and after meals as well to find out what i can eat.I have lost 5 kilos in 8 weeks and feel a lot better with my change of diet. Can i ask how soo you seen your dsn as i have not heard anything from my local surgery .I have had a retinography but have no idea when i will be recalled to see ths gp or diabetic clinic

Hi Jim, When I rang up for the results of my HBA1c test, I was told over the phone by the receiptionist that it was positive for diabetes, so made an appointment there and then, but couldn't get an appointment for two and a half weeks. When I saw her it was a normal 5 minute slot and she told me to take Metformin and come back in May when my next HBA1c was due, and she would sort everything out then i.e. eyes, (as I had blurred vision) diet course etc., every question I asked was replied with "we will sort it out in May". If I were you I would ring the surgery and make an appointment either with the nurse or your gp. I took the initiative and booked myself on to the X-pert course, which is for T2 diabetics, it is a free six week course, one day a week for about 2 hours. If you google it you should be able to find one in your area.

If you need any more information please let me know, always here to help if I can, and so is everyone else, this Forum is the best place you can be for support, I was terrified when I was first diagnosed I didn't know what to do, what to eat, when to test, and 3 months is a long time to be left to your own devices until the next HBA1c test, so I am hoping my next results are good so that I can stick my two fingers up at DSN and say well its no thanks to you and your lack of advice. Sorry I had a bit of a rant there, but it's supposed to be good for your sole so I am told!!!

When you have seen your DSN it will be intresting to see what she has to say, so keep us informed of how you get on.

Take care and keep smiling:D

Marilyn
