I think you make a good point in that there is a certain presumption that everyone is familiar with internet forums to start with. I'm lucky in that I have used them for years and in fact I'm a moderator on another (hobby related) forum. But if you are already reeling from the diagnosis and then find the site difficult to navigate then I can see how it can be frustrating. The videos on the main page (pinned, i.e. fixed, near the top) go so far but perhaps some broader brush intro to how forums work might be of use for those less familiar with them. I think the site is well structured but can understand how it could be daunting to some.
Have a good look around, press buttons to see what they do (you're not going to break the internet), have a look at your own profile and preferences options (click on the avatar/icon top right on the red bar left of your name). I've disabled all my alerts for example - I don't want to be deluged with more emails especially if I'm looking on here a couple of times a day anyway.
