Hi, I'm new to this and having been recently diagnosed, 19.2 blood sugars, I have been put straight on metformin and gliclazide, now having to wear glasses as eyes are blurred, what kind of time span if any can i expect the symptoms to subside ( blurred vision ect ) I know this is probably a silly questions as everyone differs, but feeling very depressed and unwell most of time and my nurse just says to see how it goes, blood sugars today 12.7. any support much appreciated :(

Welcome to the forum, No more Choccie,(try 85% choc. by the way,it is low in carbs!! :D )
Please have a good read round the forum ,especially about controlling your diabetes with diet etc and ask us lots of questions. There is a search bar at the top of the page that can help you find subjects as well.

Hi, after my diagnosis in March this year my eyesight was blurred for around 4 or 5 weeks and I needed to wear very weak reading glasses just so I could see the TV properly and see to drive :D

Don't worry, my blood glucose level was 28mmol/L or there abouts and my eyesight returned to normal.

If your eyes are the same, left and right, just get a pair of cheap reading glasses. You can buy a pair for around £5 or £6 in most chemists or even cheaper if you have a local £ shop :D

Hi no more choccie
6 years ago, I was also on Metformin and gliclazide.
I've managed to get my BG, weight and bood prssure down by reducing my carb intake and dropped the Gliclazide. initially, because it causes weight gain and I can do without it.
i had to leaarn how to do all this and reading everything and applying logic was the key
Eg ALL carbs turn to blood glucose after digestion, so logically, why base my eating on them? logically, I DON'T NEED THEM
Metformin has some anti cancer protection qualities, and doesn't cause weight gain or hypos, so I'll keep using it.
