Welcome to the forum. T2 is a metabolic disorder which means that we can't process carbohydrates.

Most of us control our numbers by eating low carb food. @JoKalsbeek will give you some good info.

Glicazide lowers blood sugar and can cause problems going low carb as there is a chance of hypos.

My 3 monthly test came back 18.3 then after a week on Met and straight into low carb was 16.2 and following week 12.8.Now into single figures but still work to be done. Did you receive a 3 month H1 reading? Mine was 121 so yours may have been bit higher?
From reading here seems most start off in the 80s and 90s so I'd say we are in the higher end of things? The good news is you found your way here and can make positive changes.Takes a bit to adjust to T2 and Low Carb is the key to it all.Good luck.

"Extremely bad diabetes" would require insulin to get under control, if one wants to call any kind of diabetes "extremely bad". If you're asking if you're a hopeless case, no you're not. You have pills that force the pancreas to produce more insulin. Not ideal, or really, far from it, and not advisable in the long run, but... No, you're not extremely bad. Your numbers resemble mine when I started out, so there's hope for you yet. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html <-- have a read, see whether it resonates with you.

Just be careful, as @xfieldok already pointed out, going low carb with glic will caus hypo's. I know, I've had them while on the stuff. Not fun at all. So keep testing and adjust meds accordingly.

And always ask questions!
Jo

Hi @andem,

Welcome to the forum. Yes, these readings are fairly high -- this doesn't necessarily mean, though, that you can't get back to normal. Many of us with T2 diabetes had similar readings to begin with.

Were you prescribed a meter? With gliclazide, your GP should have prescribed one.

Hi. Can your let us know what your BMI is as some 'T2s' who are slim are not T2 but late onset T1 (LADA). Have you lost weight recently without trying? Gliclazide can help at least for a while but not ideal if you have excess weight and insulin resistance. This tablet tends to work during a period of 10 hours. 40mg is the lowest dose (I was on 320mg before insulin) so the risk of hypos whilst low-carbing is low
