As forum members now have a few articles under our belts we thought it might be a good idea for them to be linked to a specific thread on the forum for all to see, and also share where possible.

I recently did blood work and my A1C after fasting came back as 6.2 and I was wondering was yours also 6.2 when you were diagnosed? I am nervous about it because I was told 6.5 is Type 2, and under that is pre-diabetic.

Also read your post and I really want to try this diet you are talking about! Any links or recipes you want to share I would be glad and overjoyed to have.

Since my blood tests I have been watching every thing I eat, because I don't like how sick I feel when I eat sugars or carbs. I'm pretty sensitive to what my body is doing and going through, and I can feel it when I eat anything that spikes my sugar now. It's terrible and I really want to reverse this so bad. Would love if you could mentor me. Give me advice. Anything! Thank you!

What is your current diet @HeartShineGirl ?

Well, for the past week (since realizing I was pre-diabetic) I have started cutting out all sugars, and even eating whole wheat bread doesn't make me feel too good so this is how I have been eating: (examples)

Breakfast:
Slim-Fast 20 Gram Protein Shake (1 gram sugar, 5 grams fiber)
or
Avocado toast (whole wheat) with a fried egg (fried in extra virgin olive oil)
or
2 eggs scrambled, with 2 cups of spinach and a handful of cherry tomatoes.
or
1 bowl of steel cut oats with a handful of blackberries and 1 boiled egg

Lunch:
Low-salt Turkey (from Deli) on whole wheat bread with spinach & thick tomato slices.
or
Two skewers with Chicken & veggies like bell peppers, onions, mushrooms cooked on the BBQ the night before.
or
Chicken salad, with sliced up avocado and olives over spinach, romaine, mushrooms and sliced bell peppers

Dinner:
Baked Salmon with lemon and steamed broccoli & cauliflower
or
BBQ chicken with BBQ'd vegetables
or
Bean or lentil soup (home made).

Snacks:

Macadamia nuts (fresh off the tree outside my work), low salt nuts from the store like cashews, peanuts. Or, no salt nuts like walnuts, almonds.
Veggies: Carrots, tomatoes (okay it's a fruit), cucumber.
Boiled eggs
Fruit: Lemons, tangerines, grapes, blueberries, blackberries.

Oils: Olive oil only so far.

I love to eat veggies and love zucchini.

I have cut most all dairy out of my life a long time ago, but not because I didn't like it, but because it was troublesome for me. However, I do love dairy and I would love to incorporate it into my diet now. I just don't drink milk much and hard aged cheeses give me headaches, so I have just stayed away.

Now I am trying to find new recipes, and foods and I need to eat more veggies and find more recipes.

Before this, I ate mostly carbs, seriously... (pizza, donuts every morning, bagels, etc.) and a lot of fast food. I also drank a lot of sweet teas and soda, and beer on occasion, as well as coffee with a lot of sweet creamer, but now I drink only water.

I have really bad eating habits because I am a foodie, but this is how I have been eating for the past 7 days. I feel hungry sometimes and yet, I would rather be hungry than sick.

OK ... wheat and oats are not ideal at all. Rather bad for diabetics. The rest is a pretty good diet

More fish wouldn't hurt

Hello @HeartShineGirl There are some already running threads where recipes and daily menus are shared, including this one: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today.75781/

The tangerines and grapes are high in fructose sugars, so not good for pre-diabetics or Type 2 diabetics.
Welcome to the forum @HeartShineGirl!

I'm just away on a short break but will reply in full as soon as I'm back. Just quickly though in the meantime my hba1c was 7.8 on diagnosis. At 6.2 you would be classed as prediabetic. Diabetic classification starts at 6.5. At 6.2 you are in a very good position to turn this around with even small changes in my opinion. I have lots of info which I will happily send you. Lots of info here on this amazing forum. Also Diet Doctor and Libby Ditch the Carbs. I am now officially in remission. My bloods are normal and my hba1c in non diabetic range for over 12 months. Try not to worry. I will be in touch asap.

Welcome to the forum HeartShineGirl, another low carber here. I have got my diabetes very well controlled now by vastly reducing the carbohydrates I eat. Here’s a link to Diet Dr’s explanation of Low Carbing:
