Newly diagnosed Type 2

Hi all,

I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have an appointment with the DN for next week and one with the doctor for Thursday. From what I have read so far, most people are put onto Metaformin. Does anyone know if this will still be the case for me as I am Vitamin B12 deficient already and Metaformin causes the deficiency too.

Thanks

Hi. Yes, it's quite likely that Metformin will be started possibly after trying a low-carb diet. You will need to discuss the B12 problem with the doc. Perhaps supplements?

hi, welcome, good luck :)

I wrote good luck instead of welcome so edited but then decided I could hardly take the good luck away so you got all three :)

Hi Linnes welcome to the club. I was only just diagnosed last month I believe if your blood results weren't too high then you try diet first and then medication if you need extra help. Have a good look on the forum and just take your time - its all very confusing there are lots of good people on here who can help with any questions you may have - doesn't matter how daft you may think they are (they aren't) Take care
Debs :D

that's nettys fault she started on the whole typo thing

there are other medications apart from met so if you aren't allowed them, that's not the end of the road

Hi Linnes welcome to the forum there's a lot of us that are newly diagnosed and it can feel like there is too much to learn, but as others have said it takes a little time to get used to it. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago now and I am on diet control, your doctor may want to try that approach before medication. Good luck.

All those typo's need a sugary drink :P
