Hi all
Just got off the phone to the surgery and had it confirmed I have T2 diabetes. Seeing DN on 11th December for first appointment. Feeling a bit like I have been hit by a bus at the moment as I have also just been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. What’s even more annoying is I know both that and my T2 could be made better if the NHS would just hurry up with my gastric surgery I am on the waiting list for.
Any advice, guidance and support gratefully received.

hi and welcome. you really will benefit from the lchf diet. when you get near the top of the list your going to have to do a 4 week strict diet. it reversed my brother in laws type 2. your lucky i cant get on the list. we are allowed 3/4 of a surgery every 2 years in our health board. so i would be required to diet for 3 years before i even had a chance at the op. if youcant prove you can diet and maintain it they may refuse surgery.

Hi. I agree that a low-carb diet that most of us follow should help you move up the waiting list or even (you never know) make the op unnecessary depending on how much weight you lose. It should certainly help your blood sugar. Many of us stay below 150gm of carbs per day and many well below 100gm. What sort of diet are you having currently?

The Forum member @ickihun may be able to help you with gastric surgery advise, she’s waiting for it too. I was given the option of gastric surgery on diagnosis but having lost over 4 stone by eating low carb I don’t fit the criteria anymore!

I'm guessing by your post that you've completed tier3 and tier4 and awaiting the op itself. So you have lost enough weight to qualify and kept it off. Did you use low carb eating and are you still losing?

Hi. I am on the waiting list. Have passed all my assessments in terms of surgeon dietician and psych. Not had to lose weight for it. Think it’s different for different PCTs. I’m at St George’s and all they were worried abut was if I had health conditions that would cost the NHS money which I did before and have even more now!!!

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I agree that CCGs decisions to defer treatments is causing a lot of heartache and physical risks to patients. It will definitely cost the NHS more in the long run with a larger bill for drugs or ever increasing dosages/stronger medications and the probability of surgical interventions that might benefit earlier rather than later causing progression of conditions that, in turn, may cause even further intervention. It is madness.

Please take a walk through the forum, there are knowledgeable and supportive members who will be only too glad to advise you on your particular problems.
