Hi all

I have been diagnosed as diabetic this week, not yet been to the diabetic clinic but the Dr believes I have type 2. I am fairly overweight and have a major sweet tooth.

Just thought I would pop by and say hello. Like I say I am totally new to this and it was a huge shock to be diagnosed so I am after as much advice as possible.

I really look forward to speaking to you and getting some tips.

Laura

Hi Laura.

Welcome!

I was diagnosed this year as type 2 also.

Its a bit of a shock, but do read up on what you can do to help yourself.

Be careful with what you eat to prevent any blood sugar spikes, I dont eat any sugars and am very careful with what carbs I put into my body, this has resulted along with medication in a decent hba1c blood test which is good.

Maybe start looking at your diet to decide what is and isnt good for you, and ask lots of questions.

hya laura and welcome to the forum,. ask as many questions as poss and we will try to help :D

Thank you all, I have already found some really helpful informtion on the forum so am a bit more hopeful now than I was.

Until yesterday I had no idea that I had to watch my carbs too, I was only diagnosed a few days ago so not yet been to the diabetes clinic but just assumed it was just sugar to watch out for. I must admit the whole carb thing has put me on abit of a downer, I love pasta and potatoes and obviously my sweet things and am really not sure how I am going to cope with all this. I suppose most newbies to diabetes feel similar.

Hi Laura and welcome to the forum

I am newly diagnosed with type 2 also and the first thing I thought was thank god it's sugar I have to cut down on as I can take it or leave it. I was gutted when I found out it was carbs as well but to be honest it isn't as bad as you think once you get into it. I had a piece of bread the other day to see what it did to my BG and even though I had looked forward to it when I had it it wasn't that special TBH.

I have learnt so much from this forum and would just recommend you keep reading and asking any questions you have here.
