Hi everyone. Last week I was diagnosed with diabetes (likely type 2 but have had antibody test to confirm) - I am 29 and 50kg so I am a healthy weight. I was put on Metformin and Gliclazide straight away, I am monitoring my glucose levels and they seem to have gone down. I am consciously not eating much added sugar too - my a1c came back at 138! I exercise a lot so don't feel low carb is the best diet for me. Would love to hear if anybody can relate to this or any advice going forward.

Cutting out added sugar is a good start.

If you decide to have another look at low carb (several professional athletes do) be aware that you'll need to check your Gliclazide dose with your diabetic nurse.

Did you only get an antibody-test? Because they're not always right.... Was a C-peptide done, maybe HOMA-IR? For your weight and age, and the ridiculously high HbA1c, I'd not be satisfied with an antibody test that doesn't cover all the possible bases. Maybe something to ask about? Anyway, welcome to this place and good luck figuring out the right way forward!
Hugs,
Jo

Hello, thanks for your reply. I didn’t get those tests no - I will look into that - thank you.

@kat1994 what is their thinking for type 2 rather than 1? Make sure they do all the relevant tests. There are many many people diagnosed with type 1 beyond adolescence. I myself was 54. I think that needs to be properly determined first.

It was based on my ketone levels
