I went to my doctor a month ago with high bp. My readings were around 165/95 for a week. My blood glucose fasting readings were 7.1 then 8.1. I was told I had type two and offered medication. I decided to tackle this head on and made huge lifestyle changes. No sugar. Low carb high protein diet and gym or bike most days.
I have lost 18 pounds in just under 4 weeks and my bp is now around 130/80 and my fasting levels are between 4.7 and 5.4 every morning. My highest reading after food has been 6.5. I plan to lose another two stone before I go back to the doctor in March.
Am I type 2 or was this a wake up call?

Hi. First, well done. Views on this vary a bit but I think most people would say that you are still diabetic but by adopting the right life-style you have pushed it into remission; perhaps for a long time into the future. Where insulin resistant T2 is involved and you remove it as you have done you can argue that the diabetes is cured as long as the new lifestyle is maintained. I'm not aware of any definitive answer on this but as you have found as a minimum you can manage the problem right into the background.
