News - Type 2 risk for acute pancreatis

Oh joy! Thanks for pointing that one out - I looked up pancreatitis in Wiki and it says that Statins may exacerbate it too. I shall ask the diabetic nurse about that when I see her on Wednesday..... :(
 
Here's the problem. High Triglycerides leads to Pancreatitis. So you get prescribed Statins to lower your Triglycerides.

Then it turns out that Statins INCREASE the risk of Pancreatitis?

We're doomed!
 
Oh well, I'll send for the vet tomorrow, might as well be humanely destroyed now before I die of lung cancer, liver failure, pancreatitis, swine flu, obesity, food that has sprayed with stuff, salmonella from chicken and eggs................... :shock:
 
And the problem is that the standard blood test do not include an Amylase test.

Anyone on Byetta or Victoza should insist on it.

My last reading was 576, the normal range is 28 to 100.

So with a high reading like that what happened.......do you have Pancreatitus ? Interested to know as I use Byetta and I do know that the readings vary from lab to lab, there is no standard figure, just ranges. However, yours was way high !!!

I had acute pancreatitis in 2001, caused by gallstones, this in turn lead me to having a distal pancreatectomy, removal of body and tail of pancreas, in Dec 07. I was diagnosed as IGT in July 09 (see my earlier post 29 March, pre diabetic after distal pancretectomy). My cholestrol levels went up month upon month even after losing weight and exercising, my diabetic nurse decided to put me on statins. I wasn't happy about this as I take a lot of meds anyways, but on reflection thought is was for the best. On receiving them I read the info leaflet that came with them and lo and behold, statins can (rarely) cause pancreatitis. Rarely is still too much for me. My pancreas is damaged because of surgery and that in itself can cause an attack. I went to my GP, who was very helpful, he contacted a specialist who came up with an alternative, fenofibrate, I take this 3 times daily with meals. My cholestrol is now at a safe level. Don't ever presume your diabetic nurse or GP know all the side effects, and always read the info leaflet.
 
What symptoms anyone suffered or had with pancreatis ?
 
PAIN!!! A full blown Acute Pancreatitis attack is the worst pain on Earth (& I speak from experience) - it is said that the pain is only comparable to terminal bone cancer pain :(
It needs immediate A&E attention.
I had "End-stage-Idiopathic-Chronic Pancreatitis" and I no longer have a pancreas.
