NHS Data Sale

Hi Everybody,

I was in my doctor's surgery this morning and noticed an announcement that our medical records are to be sold to private companies, ostensibly for research and improved services. However, if you read both the attached links the data will be potentially used for other reasons.

Call me paranoid, but I immediately opted out.

Interesting, my hba1c was 18.6 one year ago, now 6.1 I was very unwell, and made many visits to my gp, I received a letter to take part in research I maybe pre diabetic!!!!!! That's what the research was abt, a few years to late!!!!!I rang them, they said sorry and that health centre has passed on my details in error, I was not happy about the situation.......

They only wanted pre diabetic patients for research, I am not that, a letter came saying dear patient, did not even use my name, I did mention that.....no respect I felt .....

This was first mentioned some time waaaaay back and we opted out then and in writing too requiring writen acknowledgement.

Yes that's interesting that you mention written acknowledgement Hobs, as my surgery just typed something onto computer and said 'job done', whereas my boyfriend who is at a different surgery was asked to sign a form.
I think I will be making a call to surgery tomorrow for confirmation.
