The closed loop systems are a good idea. But are only at an early stage. Like Libre sensors they are time limited and even worse with cannula changes every 2 or 3 days. This is much too frequent. When such changes and associated insulin reservoir sizes increase to cope with 1 week minimum then I’ll be on. At last a partial artificial pancreas but a weekly change would be even better. Medtronic already make a 7 day infusion set, which can be used with the 780g pump and medtronic cgm as a hybrid closed loop. If the insulin reservoirs aren't big enough, you can simply change the insulin cartridge, without changing the cannula.

It seems to be good news but I doubt all of us will be eligible to get it on the NHS. Depending on whether the Trust in your area is prepared to fund it.
I’ve been told that as I am fairly well controlled I probably won’t be considered. Expected that

Have you been able to get the closed loop system yet? my hospital has just told me that they are not funded unless I am a pregnant woman which she knows is impossible for me but on the upside I only had to wait six months for the appointment

I'm confused, are the closed loop systems more expensive than the completely manual ones? In New Zealand there are only 2 pumps available, and they are both closed loop, though as the state doesn't yet pay for cgms for any diabetic you only go closed loop if you self fund the cgm.

Or is your hospital saying that you can't have any pump at all unless you are pregnant?

Closed loop is the new aim in the UK. The first 5 years will incorporate all children, those who are struggling with poor control and high HbA1c plus pregnant women. As my consultant said the aim is for all eventually but it will take time. The huge initial funding is in place but like with CGMs it will take time.
This is for full system. Not just a pump. All on NHS.
