I used to get night sweats and heart pounding, pre-diabetes, when I'd drunk too much wine (not that I'm suggesting that you do!).
Alcohol lowers BG levels.
After diagnosis, I came to the conclusion that I had been having alcohol-induced hypoglycaemic episodes (anyone can go hypo, not just us with diabetes!). I still have pretty good insulin production, I think; my liver comes to the rescue when necessary with a 'liver dump'.
Since I've been on metformin (500g 3x daily) and have cut down on the wine, I have not had another episode of sweating/pounding heart.
It might be worth checking your BG levels, next time you wake up sweating, just to rule out a hypo.
Just a thought!
