Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi
i'm and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, diet only, last january. Since christmas i've been waking up about 1o'clock sweating thinking blood sugars are low and when i test they are 6 or 7. I have a slice of bread with peanut butter and go back to sleep, and the the sweats wake me up again at 3.30, sometimes with a headache. Does anyone else have similar symptoms? It seems my body clock has switched around. My last HBC1 47mmo/l.

Hi Sid57,
I had similar simptoms to you and for a few years I put it down to the manapause before I was told I had diabetes. I now get them if I have had too much alcohol and find that I wake up through the night. The headaches I think are caused when the BG levels go too high and I would not be eating bread at any time and especially not in the night. Try just having a glass or two of water. Hope this helps a little.

I have type 1 so mines quite different to yours but having that slice of bread obviously keeps your sugars ok as your readings not too high try having just a drink of juice or water and see what they are like then but if you feel having that bread helps then still do it as its ur body and you know how you feel maybe see the doctor at your next diabetes appointment.

Hello,

I have a different take on the problem of night sweats. I used to wake up absolutely soaking in sweat long before diagnosis of T1 and in the following two years. I am well past the menopause. My nightwear was made of cotton but my duvet cover and pillowcases were polyester as was the quilt itself.

I decided to change the bedding. I sourced some special 'cool' 3 Tog duvets from a large well known clothing and bedding store. The quilts are manufactured with a fibre that 'whicks away the heat'. I have one on the mattress covered with a cotton sheet and the other in a cotton duvet cover. It is possible to purchase a fitted 'cool' matress cover. I also puchased a couple of 'cool' pillows from the same range and cotton pillowcase covers. This combination works very well for me. However, during the very cold weather when the heating isn't on overnight in a bedroom with a large single glazed window, I need extra help to keep warm.

The solution came with a 10 Tog 'pure down' quilt with its own cotton cover on top of the 'cool' quilt. Both quilts together but with the 'down' quilt pulled up only as far as my waist works well for me and keeps me warm without overheating and is still incredibly lightweight. A lightweight honeycomb weave blanket would probably work as well.

How about people with no heating in bedroom , no quilt or max 4 tog and nothing on? And still chronic sweats even after having hormone tests.. Not menopausal... Wear a cgm so know my levels all night long and at least 80% of time normal good levels.. 19+ % higher, between 7-10, and less than 1% hypo).
Have stopped all onion and garlic and pepper for just over a week on advice of friend to try and help.
Odd especially as before bed and getting into and out of bed I can be cold. If I do rarely get out of bed at night, sweat will be pouring off me, but within a minute it's gone. Sweat starts within 30 minutes of sleep and always stops the minute I wake up and totally gone by time huband brings me a cuppa in bed!!!!
This will be 5 out of 7 nights approx.. Not every night but feels like it!!
Not overweight at all. Size 10/12. All blood tests for things like thyroid good. No complications. Blood presseure normally about 108/67..... Well that todays.. And that is normal.. Unless laughing.. Then it goes up!!

Sweats are horrible...been like this for over 2 years now.

hello hi i do have to change some times. i get them in day time some times. thanks sid57

I've just been to see my DN about the night sweats and waking every 4 hours to pee that I've had for several weeks and feeling dizzy with unusually low BS that I've had for a couple of weeks. I was puzzled because for example today I went on an Away Day with lunch provided. I didn't eat the rice dish or the potato wedges but I had a small quiche, a home made sausage roll about 2 inches, a 2 inch wedge of pizza, half a sandwich. There was fruit for afters so I had a small slice of melon and I passed on the gooey cakes for afternoon break. All in all the lunch was too low on protein and too high on carbs for me, more carb in the way of pastry than I'd ever eat at one sitting so I didn't expect to feel 'nourished' afterwards but I did expect my BS to be higher than normal.

Surprise surprise it was 5.7 an hour after and 5.2 two hours after and I felt quite faint - that's really low for me but I've had quite a few low readings lately.

So, I went to see the DN, she reckons I've done well reducing my HbA1c 3 months ago, but she didn't do a repeat. She said she thinks I'm now probably overmedicated and has reduced my Metformin SR to 1000mg a day. With regard to the night sweats and waking 4 hourly to pee which is driving me crazy, she did a urine test there and then and found I have an infection so I got some antibiotics for that, came home, had a chicken korma and feel fine now I've had some real meat down me.

Anyone agree with my DN about being overmedicated or have any other ideas as to why, when I've been eating more carbs than usual, my BS should suddenly start taking a dip?
