I'm 15 and still at school in England, i went on the school ski trip to Italy this week, basically on the first day i was rushed to hospital and i'm now T1, my mum flew out to stay with me and i'm being released today 11/4/14, i cant get a doctors appointment in England until monday 14/4/14, my mum has no idea what to feed me, any ideas?

Thanks.

I would say you need to get an emergency appointment at the doctors and sort out hospital referral to a diabetic unit. Have they given you insulin? What info have you had? So much you need to know, I think you really need to get as much information as you can preferably from a specialist.

i've been given Humalog and Levemir, i've got a italian diabetic person telling me what to do and a blood glucose kit, there staring to come together now with more info now, my glucose levels are still abit high but are MUCH lower than they were, which is good i guess, Thanks for the advice.

Go to A&E if you can't get an appointment at the doctor.

Edit: as you've got insulin just ask for an emergency doctors appointment / a referral to a consultant to go through everything with you

There is a forum for young/teenagers here that will have people your age going through the same kind of thing. I was diagnosed as a teenager and found talking to people who understood really helpful.

i have a really supportive set of friends and family behind me so its been relatively easy coming to term with my diagnosis, i know i still have a long way to go but i take most things in my stride so hopefully it wont be to bad, are you type 1?

You can ALWAYS get an Emergency appointment!! But first of all stop eating ANYTHING with sugar and from flower(NOT WHITE) , potatoes and rice try to eat more more than 2 cups

WISH YOU THE BEST AND GET WELL SOON!!!

OK, follow Italian advice for insulin, food and blood testing over weekend. If levels get too high, or you are concerned, then get to A&E as soon as possible, taking along all your medication and information.
You need to get referred to a diabetes team (that deals with people of your age - teams move from paediatric to adult at various ages, from 14 to 18 years) at a convenient hospital.
There's so much to learn, but it's also important to start building relationships with the people who can work with you.

Just to reassure you that type 1 diabetes doesn't mean an end to skiing, have a look at www.runsweet.com
