Nights are hell

As a newbie type 2 I am making changes . During the day I can cope by nights are a different matter. I am so hot and add that to getting up frequently for loo breaks I am shattered and crave for a good nights sleep. Has anyone gone thought this and found any solutions? I am 53 female so maybe be menopause related too but this stops me having energy to get exercising and affecting my ability to think straight at work. Wondering if I should have porridge and soya milk at night to try and regulate sugars ??? Any suggestions much appreciated.

I see you're on diet only. Porridge at night would probably not be great. High in carbs, it would probably give you even higher BGs at night leading to even more getting up to the loo. A lot of T2s can't even tolerate porridge for breakfast.
Can't comment on the menopause, but the loo symptoms are typical of BGs being too high at night.
What sort of diet are you on? Give us a typical day's food and we might be able to help you.
One thing that helped me at night was to eat NOTHING within 2 hours of going to bed, and to do a 10 minute hard exercise session about an hour after my evening meal. Gets the BGs down quicker and further. I use a trainer machine, but you could go up and down stairs, or a brisk walk, or anything that's within your means.

Frequent nightime loo breaks are symptomatic of high blood glucose,OR age. I have bg between 4 and 6 at all times, but some nights get up 3 times. My non-diabetic superfit personal trainer friend complains of the same thing, but in her case in the mid fifties, thinks menopause is implicated. I'm 65
If you can get that bg DOWN to near normal [around 5] You can ask the doctor for help. the problem may be thatyour kidneys are not shutting down enough as you sleep. they have treatments for that.

Bless you all!

Treated myself to 50 strips and lancets, so yes I am testing. Going to checks through the evening so I can se. What is happening and during the night. porridge is fine- ish at breakfast in the 6s after 2 hours. Have weight to lose so hopefully this will get better. Will def get some exercise before bed - exhausted and not even halfway throu the day. Small salad and fish for tea then without any extra carbs .

seeing dietician on Friday

Hana's right among many other possibilities, I would get yourself checked-out just to be on the safe side.

seeing your doc about it should help :) I have problem sleeping too... but I have other things going on.

I was going to suggest that if you find your BGLs are higher a night (which mine can be sometimes).... I find cool water helps get it down quite quick. But of course you don't want to be up all night on the loo... I'd suggest making sure you drink plenty of water during the day as dehydration can also make your BGLs high. Another good tip I was given early on is to eat a protein as a snack at night and this should help your BGLs too. But as you say it could be menopause that is the culprit.

I get hot in the middle of the night if my levels go down then surge up for a Dawn Phenomenon attack!!
If they stay pretty constant through the night I don't get hot and often don't need a wee. Try a bit of greek yogurt or cheese later in the evening perhaps to try and smooth things out. It's all trial and error (and each day can be different too!!) but I usually have to eat something in the evening else I suffer in the night.

Hi Blondage, when I had hot sweats from the menopause I used to fill up a hot water bottle with cold water and then put it in the freezer to get colder and then I would take it to bed with me. It meant the difference between sleeping and not sleeping!, best of luck x
