I’m in a fitness FBgroup and made the mistake in answering a question and said that you don’t necessarily have to have carbs to have a balanced diet. well you would have thought I had fed drugs to babies.
I was told I was ridiculous and for people not to listen to me.
Also the nutritionist came on and spoke in capitals (ie shouted) like a very important person and said it’s dangerous not to have carbs.

mom but going mad am I? I mentioned people manage because there are carnivorous duets etc but to no avail.

thought I’d check it wasn’te going demented.

Sadly, no.

There’s still huge ignorance about carbs out there. Especially in fitness environments that “carb up” and have absolutely no idea that fat burning, ketosis, metabolic flexibility even exist let alone how they work. Then there’s dysfunctional metabolism v (apparently and assumed) healthy metabolisms. Myth based dietary education of the “experts” themselves regurgitating the same old nonsense “educating” the public.

Phew.
It was very unpleasant. Oh well at some point they will kea and hopefully won’t be too late.
Ignorant bar stewards!
Their attitude stank.
thank you

We would be in a right mess if we listened to the experts.
I also said that.
That didn’t go down well.
Sheep the lot of them.
Ignorant stupid sheep. Best bit is a fitness trainer told people not to listen to me and I was ridiculous. She didn’t like it when I reminded her it was supposed to be a support group.

Well you are not going mad but be aware that Group-Think is a very powerful thing and as the medical experts have said you need 130gm/day of glucose they assume you have to eat glucose (or carbs to make it). Medical experts are great at Group-Think e.g. T1 is a condition of the young. Many people don't know what a Carb is and think Calories are a food group. All we can do is try to politely educate the audience whenever we can....

I have a stash of scientific articles I often use to back up my point and ask for the same back to support theirs. Many go quiet. Those that reply sometimes do have some interesting things to say. Often more rubbish but occasionally something that challenges my views, which is healthy. It’s easy to only seek confirm existing opinions and use that as evidence.

View attachment 41151 @woollygal maybe post this up.. just for a giggle..?
I would t want to be responsible for breaking their pathetic little minds! how on earth do you become a qualified nutritionist and not know anything about nutrition!

I’m only on their fir the exercise. They don’t cater diet wise as only low carb which is still too high

Ah the old call-to-authority malarkey. Using all capitals, no less! Can't beat a bit of eminence-based nutrition advice from a NUTRITIONIST

Broadening minds is a good thing.. @woollygal

Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, they don't have to have any qualifications.
